Can La Terrifiant Buck the Trend in Buena Vista Stakes

Buena Vista Stakes – Grade II
SA Race #4 1m Turf Graded Stake
Purse $200.000 For Fillies And Mares Four Years Old And Upward.

1 High Ended Fractious Van Dyke D

This one looks like a real late bloomer and has improved from being beaten at the fair track to running second in the grade one American Oaks. Much of that improvement came from the switch from dirt to turf when she almost made it four from four when only beaten a half length in that grade one. Her works remain strong this year and she gets a perfect draw to make a winning start to her four year old campaign.

2 Rainy Day Woman John Henry Gryder A T

Ended a good season last year with a third graded stakes win in the Frankel Stakes. She is another that showed improvement when switched to turf from dirt and although she has struggled a little in grade ones she has been very consistent just below that class. She gets the much sought after two box and must have a good each way chance.

3 La Terrifiant Our Athletes Bejarano R

The current BC Fillies and Mares turf champion she has won over 4K in prize money and remains at five years old one of the best females in the game. There was a point last year when she looked like she was going to struggle a little but ended the year with three grade one wins including two in a row in her last two races. Although most BC Champions have been beaten out of sight so far this year i think she may buck the trend and has the draw to do it.

4 Instant Style Threshold Rispoli U

She won five from seven last year and whilst she deserves a crack at this level she may have just found a race that is too hot at this stage in her career.

5 Nancy Broom Moytoy Smokey Stover Prat F

After winning two grade ones at three it has to be said she hasnt really kept that improvement as she has gotten older and despite two grade three wins last year had a disappointing season by her own high standards. She has that touch of class but i will need to see how she is today to carry any confidence going forward.

6 Lorraine Mo Mentum Farm Gutierrez

Well behind High Ended in the American Oaks that run may be best forgotten as she ran a funny race that day dropping out early whereas her best races were all from on the pace. She was very impressive in the grade one QE II Challenge Cup last year and that may be the best guide to her chances.

7 Chai Mission Maxmillion Farm Fuentes Ru

A good sort on any going but we all know that if it rains she seems to grow webbed hooves. From the horror draw in the dry she cant win, if it rains then she cant lose…..only the morning of the race will tell us her chances.

SUMMARY

A tricky race to read on paper La Terrifiant should win this but if the trend of BC failures and new kids on the block continues then High Ended could be the choice.
