Captain Cook Upsets the Natives Again in Thunder Road

Thunder Road – Grade III
1 Mile Turf Stake Purse $100.000 Open 4 Year Olds And Up.

Put the first three in the BC Mile in the same race again over the same trip but come down two levels and reduce the purse by 1.9K and what happens? Well apart from 2 lengths covering all the runners at the end which is inevitable at HRP we get a horse that was claimed last year and had only managed one solitary ungraded stakes race beat all but one of them.
Here’s how they ran with the BC Turf Mile winner not even in the first 4.

1st = Captain Cook Nakamura Stables Cedillo A

This stable has been on fire in the early part of the year and it seems most of their runners have grown an extra leg this year. That can certainly be said for this one who wouldnt have even been mentioned in the same sentence as most of these when the BC ran last year but today came out and took on and beat the top turf milers in the game at the moment. Clearly improving it will be interesting to see just how good this one is in the coming months.

1st = City Of Bones John Henry Bejarano R

This one doesnt get a lot of luck with the random draw generator and today he was once again drawn wide. He coped with it well in the BC Mile when flying home for second and did a great job again today when grabbing the winner for a share of the win. With a bit more luck in the future i can see him back in the BC this year with a hope of going one better.

3rd Sundays Sauce Calia Stable Prat F

Lived up to his electric work on the 29th Jan with a solid run for a close third in this very hot race. Its not often you can say you beat the first and third in the BC Mile and still come out pretty much even in a race but i feel this is an underrated colt who still has some improvement in him.

4th Creme Fraiche Maxmillion Farm Beschizza A

The turf king set this one off in front and for a while it looked like he would pull off another one of those amazing upset wins. In the end though he was outfinished and ended up losing money even though he beat the BC Mile winner. I am not sure whether this one has any more improvement in him but this was a step up and he handled it well.
