Genghis Says I’m Khan in Late Stages of The San Vicente Stakes

The San Vicente Stakes – GII
2/9/20
SA Race 5 7F – Dirt
Purse $200.000
Three Year Olds

1st Genghis, trained by Arindel

Huge win for the New York bred here as he earned his first graded stakes win in this spot. He sat a very good trip a few lengths off the pace and then powered by everybody easily to win by three quarters of a length. He ran the distance 1:21.94 and earned $120.000 for the win.

2nd Cold Case, trained by Mb Stables

A very good second from this horse as he closed very strongly from near last to get up for second. He had to go near the back of the field from the post and was next to last at a point. He ran on very strongly down the lane to get up for a nice second place finish.

3rd Doom, trained by Rampage Stable

A pretty good run from this runner also with a nice third place finish and he was only beaten a length by the impressive winner. He came from pretty far back with a nice closing finish to get up for third. He ran very well and should have a good campaign this year.

4th Iron Return, trained by Alydar Stables

Rounding out the top four here and this horse did not run a bad race at all. He was up in a nice stalking position early on in the race and he looked poised to take over the lead in deep stretch but just could not hold off the late closers. He ran very well to get fourth.

Summary

A very big win here for Genghis as he earned his first ever graded stakes winner and stamped himself as at least one of the best young sprinters in the game. He powered home strongly and ran a very quick time. Congratulations to Genghis and Arindel on the win.
