Charleys Agent Romps in The Coolmore Lexington

The Coolmore Lexington- Grade III

KEE Race 3 1 1/16M Dirt

Purse $200.000

Three Year Olds

1st Charleys Agent, trained by Mb Stables

A much better effort today than his last start as he wound up winning by an easy margin of two lengths. Going off as the post time favorite in the field of eight he sat in a stalking position and drew off down the stretch to earn the winners share of $120.000. He earns 20 points for this but that will not get him qualified which is not a big deal as his trainer has many other options.

2nd Chailemagne, trained by Gdp Inc

A very good closing finish to end up being the runner up in this race. He sat towards the rear of the field and came rolling late to pass them all except one. A stakes winner two back going seven furlongs and ran well today in his graded stakes debut. Look for him to improve over the summer in lower level stakes.

3rd Stainless Metal, trained by John Henry

In his second start for his new trainer he earns graded stakes placed honors. He got shuffled to the rear of the field and it was ultimately too much ground to make up as he came with a good charge down the stretch. Looks like a good grade three or ungraded stakes runner.

4th Controlled Lion, trained by Our Athletes

After sitting a midpack trip all the way he ended up passing a couple of tired foes but didn’t have as much of a kick as some of the others that beat him. He ended up only getting beat three lengths and just edged out for third by Stainless Metal. Not a bad run here today and look for him to improve.

Summary

While this was a Triple Crown prep none of these horses will be starting in the first leg of the triple crown. A couple could possibly be seen in the other two legs, but most will probably be in low level stakes like the Ohio Derby, Iowa Derby or Indiana Derby. Some could improve over the summer for the big races like the Travers, Haskell or Pennsylvania Derby.
