Controlled Power Makes it Three-in-a-Row in The Makers Mark Mile

The Makers Mark Mile- Grade I

KEE Race 1 1M- Turf

Purse $300.000

Four Year Olds and Up

1st Controlled Power, trained by Spankys Barn

After settling way back in the field in the initial stages he came flying late to win the 2018 edition of this race. He’s been on a roll lately with three stakes win a row and second G1 win this year. He added $180.000 more to his bankroll in a final time of 1:33.09 for a mile on the KEE turf course.

2nd T N T Dynamite, trained by Saratoga Stud

Also camping out towards the rear of the field just in front of the eventual winner he was just outkicked in the stretch drive. He’s really hit his best stride as of late with six top two finishes in a row. We will see if he can keep that up the rest of the year with the Breeders Cup Mile most likely the goal.

3rd Compress, trained by Cherrytree Hill Farm

Last year’s BC Mile third place finisher tried to take this gate wire to wire from the outside post and ran a very game third. Getting caught late by the winner and runner up, he was only beaten a neck. He showed how tactical he can be today and with a better post may have won this race.

4th Far Too Cool, trained by Night Rider Stables

Sat in a good stalking position but could not keep pace with the top finishers. It was a respectable finish as he only got beat by half of a length in the end. We should see him get back to his best form in his next outing.

Summary

I guess you can say when you’re hot you’re hot. The top two finishers in here have been on a roll lately with a couple nice performances in a row. If they can keep this up the rest of the year you’d have to think there is a good chance they will face off in the BC Mile. A good competitive edition of the race this year.
