Cherokee Sunset Wins Battle of Top Sires at End of Durham Cup Stakes

Durham Cup Stakes – Grade III
1 1/16 Mile Dirt Stake Purse $125.000 Open 3 Year Olds And Up.

1st Range Of The Sun John Henry Bahen S R

In this game of impossibly close finishes and three year olds coming out of claimers to win grade ones it is great to see the old champions come out and perform week in and week out. This great six year old toughed it out again today and proved once again that he has a heart as big as his sires reputation. With his first win of the season he traveled in the perfect spot and never looked like giving it up as he passed the line a quarter length in front at the end. Congratulations to John Henry who has given this old warrior a new lease of life.

2nd Mad King Mb Stables Ryan S

Whilst the winners experience saw him gain the right positions at the right time this one showed his inexperience by getting into the pack and though he finished really well the winner had him covered. This was a good effort by the three year old son of Commanding and there will be plenty more successes to come.

3rd Eclipse My Knowledge Nakamura Stables Husbands P

The stable companions finished alongside of each other with this one winning the chocolate by a neck. This was a better effort with a better draw today and even though he was working better than the winner he could not quicken at the end.

4th Dirty Kruz Nakamura Stables Moran D

This one has very limited experience but is clearly up to this sort of grade he just needs a bit more time. Only beaten a length he too had every chance and was only a length off the winner.
