Chrystal Pip and Compress Look Tough

                        The Singspiel Stakes – GIII
                          WO Race 6 1 1/2M – Turf
                                Purse $125.000
                         Three Year Olds and Up

Here north of the border we got an absolute marathon of a race as they will travel a mile and a half over the turf course. A very good group of runner is going to line up to contest this marathon and it’s a good field for sure. Let’s take a look at the field for this staying power challenge marathon.

1. Compress (29-9-3-5 $3,227.510), trained by Cherrytree Hill Farm

The first of two horses that have earned over three thousand dollars in this field is the classy old guy. He’s made that money in big races throughout the years with his biggest win in the WO Mile. He’s ran third in the Breeders Cup Mile twice also. Just not sure twelve furlongs will be a good distance.

2. Whatever Man (35-8-9-9 $852.630), trained by John Henry

Another very old classy gelding here he is nearing in on the one thousand dollar mark in earnings. He is working up a storm at the moment as his last six furlong work was a flying one oh nine and four on the turf. I’m not sure he will be up to the task in here with these runners in here though.

3. Locked Down (23-6-3-3 $518.500), trained by Joshua Stables

Another pretty classy gelding that’s earned over five hundred bucks is this horse here. He has definitely not been running his greatest races as of late. He ran way back in the TAM Turf Classic last time and I think he will have to run a ton better to even be competitive in here. But if he runs huge who knows.

4. My Plucky (27-11-4-4 $633.650), trained by Hambletonian Stable

Here is one who likes to go in these marathon races and he usually doesn’t do terrible in them. He did win a grade two in February at SA going a mile and a quarter so he definitely likes a little bit of distance. I think he will need to run a very big race but definitely has a chance if everything goes good.

5. Running Bien (7-1-3-1 $48.600), trained by Patterson Stables

Definitely the least experienced horse in the race here he just broke his maiden last out here at WO on this turf course. That was going six and a half furlongs too so who knows if he will get this mile and a half distance. I guess the only thing is he did run second going a mile and an eighth two back.

6. Bridge Art (14-4-3-3 $187.630), trained by Wolfs Den

A claim two back he ran a huge first time out for his new trainer. He ran third in the Connaught Cup here at WO going seven furlongs last time. He did run a mile and a half three back but he ran fifth in an allowance race so not sure he will like this distance especially with this quality of a field.

7. Sinister Sunset, trained by Team 7 Illusions

Scratched

8. Chrystal Pip (35-10-5-8 $3,567.920), trained by Mb Stables

The class of the field here he is a multiple grade one winner and just won a grade one three back in the SA Handicap. I will say he is a very surprising entry in this little of a race but I’m guessing Mb Stables entered him here to maybe get a confidence booster in him or something. My top pick.

9. Mysterious Red Wave (7-3-1-0 $51.790), trained by Crocker Ggs

Another one who has not been battle tested at all really the toughest race he has ran in was last time when he ran fourth in the Murphy at PIM on Preakness weekend. I don’t really like to say it but I definitely think this horse is outclassed and if he won it would really be a huge shocker.

10. Iron Step (32-8-8-4 $295.710), trained by Sc Lanciano

Here’s another graded stakes winner but he won that big race on the dirt and has in fact never even won on the turf. I don’t think he likes the turf in my opinion and we know this race is on the turf so I’m going to go ahead and say he won’t very well. But maybe he will surprise us all and run a big one.

11. Im So Lucky (11-4-2-1 $105.160), trained by Sanny Village

Well here is one who really liked the stretch out to a very long distance last out. Last out he won at PRX going a mile and three eighths and did it pretty easy too winning by two lengths. I don’t know if he is this quality of a horse yet but if he likes this distance like last time he may be a big upset.

12. Solow (18-5-3-1 $596.280), trained by Saratoga Stud

Here is a horse that on his best day can compete with some very good horses if he wants to. He’s been on a cold streak though in his last two races running eighth both times and he is getting beat rather easily. He is going to have to run his best race if he wants to win this race for sure.

Summary

A very good field here with some old classy horses in here. Chrystal Pip and Compress are definitely the top two guns in here though and will be my top two picks for sure. My Plucky could be an upset chance for sure and maybe someone like Bridge Art could jump up and upset them.
