Class Tells as the Devil Walks Over Them in The Shawnee

The Shawnee – Grade II

1 1/16 Mile Dirt Stake Purse $300.00 Filly & Mare 4 Year Olds And Up.

1st        Devil In High Heels     The Sidley Stud            Lopez P             1:40.98

This weekend at least for the races I have covered things have gone pretty much to form with the class horses doing what they do. This well-established mare was always going to be a huge chance from a great draw and she made it look easy in the end. Sitting back off the good pace she picked them up easily enough and put them away with ease as she cruised clear by two lengths.

There are sure to be more big races in the calendar for her, and I fully expect to see her lining up in the BC at the end of the season.

2nd       Barossa Valley              Mo Mentum Farm       Espinoza V       1:41.56

The two best horses had the two best draws so it was no surprise to see this one in second. She never made the lead on the string early pace but was content to stalk the leaders but did not have enough left to cover her old rival down the stretch.

3rd        Go For Glory                  Mb Stables                     Lezcano J         1:41.91

I expected Barossa Valley and this one to go for the front but neither did. I think that cost her the race in the end because she hasn’t got much of a turn of foot so when it came to the sharp end she could only keep on at the one pace. To be fair to her she was maybe third best here even after her good win last time out, but she is improving this year and may become a better proposition as the year moves into 2027.

4th        Shericka                          Winning Link Stables               Velazquez J R  1:42.07

Stalked the lead but faded pretty badly down the stretch. She may be just having one of those ‘four-year-old seasons’ so I wouldn’t give up on her just yet.
