The late scratch of Evergreen certainly changed the complexion of the Pennie Ridge (GII) but Arindel’s Cobra Man didn’t care who did or didn’t show up as the 3yo gelding sat chilly in the early parts of this mile and an eighth turf stakes, then moved up boldly through the far turn to hit the front turning for home and galloped under the wire in front by a length.  The final running time was 1:484 on the soggy inner turf course (listed as yielding).  King Of Swords chased the pace throughout most of this one and took the place,  a length in front of Off Track Torcher.  Post time favorite Ownes tired a bit in the late goings to be fourth.

Cobra Man is a 3yo gray gelded son of Manhunt – Cobra Crunch, by King Cobra, and he was bred by his owner, Arindel, in NY.  This was his fifth win of his career in nine starts, three of those wins coming this season, and this was his first graded stakes score.  He now has lifetime earnings of $300.680.

Cobra Man broke in hand, reserved off of the pace, moved up on the far turn, hit the front entering the stretch, kept to task, won driving.  King Of Swords tracked the pace throughout, no excuse, second best.  Off Track Torcher sent from the gate, led to the far turn, headed, tired.  Owens showed good early speed pressing the pace, tired.  Jakarta was never involved, outrun.
