I guess this was the good part of the weekend from a handicapping standpoint, nailing both the winner and runner up… Proud Crown was sent off as the .70/1 favorite and proved to be properly back by most, taking the Winn (GIII).   He took the mile and a sixteenth main track stakes by a  length in a final time of 1:41².  Sweetly Chai set the pace to the lane but just couldn’t hold off the winner, settling for the second spot, a length in front of Hard To Forgive in third.  Brave Companion took the minor money.       

Proud Crown is a 3yo chestnut gelding by Crown Gold – Step Proud, by Proud Chai, and he was bred in FLA by Tiratzo.  Acquired by Mb Stables via private purchase for $250.000, he now has five wins from ten starts and earnings of $489.000.  The big barn keep rolling, as Proud Crown now has four stakes scores since the move over to the top conditioner.

Proud Crown tracked the pace, responded when asked, surged up, won driving.  Sweetly Chai sharp break, set the pace to the lane, headed, game, second best.  Hard To Forgive gave an even effort, no excuse.  Brave Companion was not a threat.  Kinch tracked pace, used up.
