Controlled Power turns back the clock.

San Luis Rey Stakes – Grade III
1 1/2 Mile Turf Stake Purse $100.000 Open 4 Year Olds And Up.

1st Controlled Power Spankys Barn Prat F

Its 15 races and almost two year since this six year old has won a race so why today was different we will never know but for some reason, today he found his legs again and won with the sort of ease that saw him win two grade ones in a row in 2018. Closely stalking the lead when he went to the lead it was all over and it does make you wonder whether his trainer has found something from somewhere to turn him round. Watch this space.

2nd Armed Escort Mb Stables Ochoa J

If i had a horse in gate 11 with one of the worst (according to percentage) jockeys in the race then i would be looking at a wide margin defeat but somehow Mb Stables manages to get these horses to run so much better. With just fair form this four year old ran a career best race against all the odds after being spat to the front by the wide gate speed push. The winner brushed him aside with ease but he held on really well to keep second and keeps his admirably consistent record firmly in tact.

3rd Roglic Special Nakamura Stables Velez J I

The Nak factor was once again in full view as he managed to get this horse into third from a rotten draw, the horses best run for a year when he ran fourth in the LA Derby.

4th Bayou Quartier Invicta Group Llc Rispoli U

Stayed on for fourth but couldnt dictate as he had done in his mini form resurgence so far this year. The old warrior managed a small cheque though.
