Remsen strolls home in the SUN Derby

SUN Derby – Grade III [KYD]
1 1/8 Mile Dirt Stake Purse $700.000 Open 3 Year Olds.

1st Remson Aer Stables Bridgmohan S X

As i mentioned in the write up for this race this was never about form, this was all about work times. With a work time nearly a second better than the rest of the field over a mile it looked pretty straight forward and despite failing in both his efforts in KYD qualifiers to date today he found a soft field and dealt them a spanking. Never far off the pace he won by open air and whilst he may not be the best horse from the stable to make the Derby field he certainly goes into the race with a chance if the draw monster is kinder to him than a few others.

2nd Into Mischief Nakamura Stables Gryder A T

I mentioned this rather average looking gelding would need the Nak factor from the car park draw and sure enough the stable that seems to have found the midas touch once again and delivered a stunning performance. Getting the expected wide gate speed push he went to the front but when he lost the lead in the straight he didnt fold and kept on really well to hold onto second. On the face of it he would remain an outside Derby hope but who knows what miracles his trainer can muster come May if he gets in.

3rd= Cognac Bay Gdp Inc Davis D

A triple dead heat for third, only at HRP ay. What that does mean is that three more horses have a chance of getting the the KYD and this is the first of them. Consistent form in overnights he was well beaten but nevertheless will get another chance in the coming weeks.

3rd= Hang Around Mb Stables Bejarano R

Close enough in transit but never quickened up and ending up in the share for third. He may get one more chance but he has a fair bit to find to be a serious contender.

3rd= Dragster D J C Racing Stables Beschizza A

He looked the form horse in the race and whilst he was the highest finisher from those who came from off the pace he couldnt get close enough to worry the first two. He will get one more chance and with a better draw he may yet make the Derby field.
