Could It Be “Doom’s” Day in The Bay Shore?

3 AQU    The Bay Shore(GIII)

$250.000            7f  Dirt           3yo             122lbs

Sophomore sprinters will be headed to the gate early on Saturday afternoon and we look at the field for the 2020 The Bay Shore (GIII), going seven furlongs on the main track, here at AQU.

I’m going to take Doom as my top pick today, and I think he will go off as the odds-on favorite here.  That was a nice race at SA last out and at today’s distance.  If he fires that race I think he gets his picture taken.  I’ll go right next door and take Forward Pass as my second choice and it isn’t like me to take a horse coming in from a long layoff. But he broke maiden at first asking, took a good long break before topping Alw horses and now does the same plan here.  It’s a good looking bunch and it should be a fine race.

Here’s The Field –

1
Chip Away  South Shore Stables  Geroux F 122 6/1

Since the vet made a visit back in Oct, this one has concentrated on racing.  A pair of wins, a second and a third since then.  This is the first venture into stakes company, but it looks like a logical spot to see what he’s made of.  Solid works getting ready for this, so I’d give him a look.

2
Blue Cobra  Estero Farms  Jaramillo E 122 7/1

Broke maiden in his second race then just never lifted a hoof when ninth in the Davis Stakes (GIII) at TAM in his most recent.  Only three races under his belt and his win came in the mud, so he’s kind of hard to handicap in my eye.

3
 Gothic Heart  SamIam  Flores O 122 7/2

Three in a row, including a nice stakes win at TP on a track marked good.  His only bad race came on the grass, so I think you have to make a serious case for him.  They bring Flores up to ride off of that very fast race at CT, so the barn is setting him up for a big effort.

4
 Fusaichi Pegasus  Supremebeast  Carmouche K 122 4/1

Undefeated colt certainly gives his all every time he goes out there, and was nabbed for the $40.000 claiming tag last out.  Shows a solid string of works getting ready for this one and until someone can beat him, you have to give him a bit look.

5
Cold Case  Mb Stables  Lopez P 122 4/1

Just never really got going in his most recent start while facing graded horses at SA, which really went against that prior race while facing similar over the same track.  I’m going to chalk that up to the distance and give him a big chance to get back on track here.

6
 Julius Caesar  Maxmillion Farm  Castellano J J 122 7/1

Kicked off his career with back to back wins vs. WV breds but it’s been another story since trying graded foes.  Eighth/Ninth at SA facing very tough fields, but catches another tough lot here, so it’s either improve or get ready for another long afternoon at the races.

7
 Doom  Rampage Stable  Rosario J 122 3/1

A pair of wins to close ’19 and get ’20 started, then ran a nice race to be third in the San Vincent (GII) at SA last out.  I think you have to make a huge case for this one, and he may be the post time favorite.  Works are sharp, so all systems are go.

8
 Forward Pass  D J C Racing Stables  Lezcano J 122 3/1

Hard to fault anything with this one.  Broke maiden at first asking at FL and came back to beat Alw horses at SUN before shutting it down for the winter.  The vet stopped by to make some alterations and his works have bee solid since then.  I wouldn’t ignore him as he seems to run just fine with a break.

9
Green Leaves  Greeko Holdem  Vargas J A Jr 122 5/1

Broke maiden at CT to get the sophomore season going and then came right back to take Alw horses at SA, both at a sprint distance similar to today.  They like the horse or they wouldn’t have been racing him against stakes company as a maiden… he has ability.

10
Parti People  Night Rider Stables  Gutierrez R 122 7/1

Broke maiden right out of the box but it’s been a struggle since then.  Was fourth last out vs. NY-bred stakes horses, but he quit in that outing and this is the same distance and graded horses.  Add in the outside post and it makes me blink.
