Decent Field for The Schiller

And here we have the 2018 edition of the Schiller. This is a field of ten turf runners who will be trying to win this pure of one hundred and fifty dollars. There is some very nice runners in the field and it looks like it should be a competitive race for sure. Let’s take a look at the ten runners.

1. Condo (17-4-1-4 $89.040), trained by Diablo Diablo

Now this runner here has been on a bit of a cold streak as of late with two out of the moment finishes in a row. He did run sixth in the grade one Arlington Million in one of those races though so he’s faced stiff competition. He will need a big turnaround to win in this race though.

2. First Class Male (9-3-0-2 $91.920), trained by Team 7 Illusions

Here is a New York bred facing the open competition for the first time in three starts. Two of those were stakes races which he didn’t run good in and the other was a win in an optional claimer at Belmont. He will need to run the race of his life I think to get the job done in this spot.

3. Second Sons (24-7-2-7 $216.320), trained by Childs Play

Well this will be the first start this horse under his new trainer who is also new to the game in Childs Play. He bought this horse for sixty bucks a little over a week ago. He has won multiple stakes races this year but also will have to carry one hundred and twenty six pounds which is a lot of weight compared to the rest.

4. Creepy Time (15-4-0-3 $181.070), trained by D J C Racing Stables

Another horse who has just not been cutting it in his recent race with three out of the money finishes in a row. Granted two of those were graded stakes but his last start was in a statebred stakes race where he ran eighth and got beat by six lengths. He will need a drastic change to get him home.

5. Danzigs Canyon (11-4-1-0 $98.940), trained by Maxmillion Farm

This horse is also on a cold streak off of two twelfth place finishes in two grade ones in a row. He ran twelfth in the Sword Dancer at Saratoga and in the Northern Dancer BC Turf at Woodbine. Maybe the class relief will help him out but I’m not sure that I see it happening at all.

6. Stormy Bello (48-10-8-11 $473.140), trained by Joshua Stables

It just seems that a lot of horses in this field are coming into this race off of bad performances. This horse is coming into this race off of a thirteenth place finish in the Woodbine Mile and an eighth place finish in the Knickerbocker Handicap. He at least ran second in a grade one three races back.

7. Far Too Cool (19-7-3-1 $976.510), trained by Night Rider Stables

Finally a horse who is coming into the race off of a good effort. This horse ran fourth in the grade one Shadwell Turf Mile at Keeneland last out. He ran a good race that day and an effort like that could definitely propel him to a win in here. If he runs like he did in that race he has a good chance.

8. Serious Cobra (19-4-4-4 $742.630), trained by John Henry

Now this horse is coming into this race off of a tenth place finish in the grade two Nearctic but I do think that was because it was going six furlongs and I think he is better at a route of ground. He gets back over a mile in this spot and I think he will be ready to rock and roll in this race and he has a live chance.

9. Its Geek To Me (27-10-3-2 $313.010), trained by Nakamura Stables

This horse is also coming into this race off of pretty good performance where he won a wide open allowance at Monmouth last out. He ran third in a stakes race the race before that. I think he has a very good chance if he runs like he did last time. He has a pretty decent shot in this spot I think.

10. Avellisqaw (27-6-3-8 $316.000), trained by Wolfs Den

Now if this race was on the dirt this would be my top choice but since he will be making his first start ever on the turf I just can’t do it. He is coming off of a win in the three hundred dollar West Virginia Breeders Classic at Charles Town. He is the dark horse with no starts on the turf in his life.

Summary

Well I think the main key to this race is going with the horses that are in good form at the moment because most of them aren’t. My top pick is going to be Far Too Cool with Serious Cobra right behind him. I think it is going to be a very good race for sure and it should be exciting.
