Six Hope to Sing a Glorious Song Saturday

Glorious Song Stakes- $100.000 Purse
WO- For Fillies Two Years Old
Seven Furlongs on the Dirt
November 11, 2018

This Saturday up north of the border, we’ll have the eleventh running of the Glorious Song Stakes, which sends two year old fillies seven furlongs on the main track in hopes of picking up glory, and perhaps catapulting their career into bigger stakes. Last year’s winner, Diplomatic Chaos, was not a well known name yet, but she used this race to be her first stake win as she opened up her career with four wins. She’d win a couple graded stakes this year, and was part of the BC Fillies and Mares Sprint last week. So, who knows what the future holds for these. It has been a good race for D J C Racing Stables, historically, as he has won two of the last three editions. He’ll have one going to the gate here as well, against five others. Let’s take a run through this field!

#1- Old Nebraska Copy (John Henry, ridden by Alan Garcia)- This one is a full sister to Broomsticks Copy, the two time BC Champion. The pairing up of Broomstick Nebraska and An Old Copy has been tried several times since then, but has not produced another “copy”. This filly is off to a good start in her career, and a win here goes a long way. Still, she has won just once in six starts, and has only beaten one horse in her last two races. Perhaps a tactical change is in store here, as she has been flat in those starts.

#2- Golden Hour (D J C Racing Stables, ridden by E J Wilson)- Looking to make it three out of four in this race, the trainer will be hoping that Golden Hour is able to build off her last start. Last time, he had a filly that was undefeated here. Golden Hour is one for three in her career, but looked good in going to wire and wire against three other NY-bred maidens. Must be able to duplicate that, and may even need to improve on it just a tad.

#3- Paris Theatre (Glorify Stables, ridden by P Morales)- The trainer seems like a natural to be winning the Glorious Song Stakes, and if that is to happen here, we will likely see Paris Theatre save her best act for the stretch. On sloppy ground, she broke her maiden in her last start, at FE, against fellow Canadians. She should be the hometown favorite as the lone ON-bred in the field. It is otherwise tough to get a read on where she is heading into this since that race was on the slop, and she only has one public work since late April.

#4- Command Of Numbers (Estero Farms, ridden by R M Hernandez)- While Estero Farms didn’t win the big race of BC weekend, it was certainly a very successful two days for him, so congratulations to him on that. In this race, he brings this Command Attention filly to the gate, and she has one win in four career starts. The victory was in her last race, going a mile at BEL. Her SRF for that effort seems a little low, and I feel she is going to enjoy this distance.

#5- Di Zippy (RNP Stables, ridden by G Boulanger)- It will be a short turn around for this Di Medici filly, as she will make her second start in two weeks, and third start in four weeks. It is often that third start in a short period of time that will do a horse in, so this is a pretty tough assignment on that basis. She’s won three of five, including her last race, which was her first off a $25.000 claimer. She has certainly earned the chance to compete in a race like this, and I’d be picking her if it weren’t for the short turnaround between these three races.

#6- Speedy Ginger (The Sidley Stud, ridden by P Husbands)- I am very excited to be watching these Ginger Haggis foals run in races like this. Speedy Ginger has made three starts, and the first two were nothing to write home about. Following them, The Sidley Stud added bute and a shadow roll, and she looked like a new horse, breaking her maiden against NY-breds at FL three weeks ago. Does not have a public work in two months, and I wish there was one there, because I’d imagine what shows are not with the new adds. Good potential on this one.

Prediction: 4-2-3-6
