Deliberate Miss Finds the Magic in The Go For Wand Handicap

The Go For Wand Handicap – Grade III

1 Mile Dirt Stake Purse $250.000 Filly & Mare 3 Year Olds And Up.

1st     Deliberate Miss      Mb Stables       Hernandez R M

One thing we have learned about handicaps over the years is that if you can get a fast worker with just enough potential into the race with a decent weight then it is very possible that you can overcome the top weights regardless of how much better they look on paper. This five year old whose running style isn’t exactly suited by the new engine had been struggling a little this year but although her form looked nowhere near the runner ups she has been super consistent over her decent career and got the breaks here for a deserved win. Coming from her normal position from off the pace she just got home by a head and gave the stable a nice purse. There is no sign of her slowing down so we may see her as a six year old next year and if she remains as consistent i am sure she will continue to be a force in these types of races,

2nd     Z Command         Smokey Stover          Saez G

Despite her top weight she looked the stand out in the field but after pushing the leader for a long time and then taking it up after half way she was always going to vulnerable under her impost. She battled on really well and i must admit i was surprised to see her go down but she has had a busy and tough season and looked like she had come to the end of it. The temptation must be to put her to the paddock now, she has had a stellar career and of course has that BC win to her name so will be a match up that will eagerly be awaited.

3rd    Starship Twister        TwinTowersRacing      Ryan S

Led from the gate and ran a really honest race to be third and continues the good season the trainer is having. She may not be at the top of her division but she rarely runs a bad race and she will be back next year to try to add to her prize money.

4th     Laffy Crack       Night Rider Stables     Saez L

I was a bit disappointed by how little she found when put under pressure and it may just be a case of a busy season coming to an end. another that will look good in the paddock she has her grade one success that will add to her value as a broodmare.
