Doubledogdare Stakes Looks to Be Anyone’s Race to Win

4/16/21

  1   KEE   Doubledogdare Stakes (GIII)

        $100.000     4YO&Up F&M      1 1/16m Dirt      123lbs +penalties

The KEE spring stakes extravaganza continues and we catch a nice field of twelve fillies and mares set to go a mile and a sixteen in the Doubledogdare Stakes (GIII).  It’s a mile and a sixteenth main track black-type event that seems to be about as wide open as you could want a race to be… I wouldn’t be surprised by any outcome here.  I landed on Scorned Lover as the top choice for me.  She has three wins and a second since being claimed and that last-out blow-out sets the table for another big run.  Let’s head out a few gates and put El Gran Attention in the horses to watch category.  She is making her seasonal debut and never missed a check last year, just missed the win at KEE, although on the grass, and just seems to fit with these.  Another that deserves some focus is Fair On Friday… this one comes off of a wire-to-wire win at GG going a mile… add in her consistency and class, I think she deserves a big look.

Here’s The Field –

1
Forever Phooey Party    Night Rider Stables    Lanerie C J   123   10/1

Had a nice three-race grouping to close out the ’20 season but the two ’21 starts haven’t been anything to get excited about.  Beat one in the HOU Ladies Classic (GIII) and the same in the Royal Delta (GIII) at GP.  If she can find that old form, she can beat just about anyone, but her current form isn’t near that.

2
   Scorned Lover    John Henry    Bridgmohan S X   123   9/2

Outstanding claim for just $14.000 and the new connections have three wins and a second from the four starts since the hostile takeover.  That last out seven length win certainly indicates that she is set on “go” and must be looked at in this one.  She’s won five of seven career starts, so… yeah, she can run.

3
Fair On Friday    Gdp Inc    Saez G   123   6/1

Another with a proven form where she has won seven of twenty starts and has five other on-the-board efforts.  She took down Alw horses last out and her best would certainly make her a huge factor in this one.  Keep an eye on her.

4
   Giveaway    Nakamura Stables    Castellano J J   123   5/1

She hasn’t won since Sep when taking NY-bred stakes horses at SAR, but she’s been on-the-board in every start since then, including a pair of thirds vs. graded foes.  Can she find that little extra to push her to a win in this one?

5
Techno Slayer    The Sidley Stud    Graham J   123   5/1

Three wins from her last four starts, all of those at the CT bull-ring but she just missed at HOU last out while facing open Alw horses.  Can she take the step-up in class yet again?

6
   Pure Addiction    TwinTowersRacing    Gaffalione T   123   8/1

A real hit-and-miss type that has been on the board in eight of nineteen starts.  She was second in the Personal Ensign (GI) last Aug and was third vs. Cal-bred stakes horses, but she is just too inconsistent in my eye and I’ll look at others.

7
Respected Wishes    Crocker Ggs    Van Dyke D   123   10/1

This one just never seems to run a bad race, hitting the board in her last seven starts, and she’s banked some nice money taking on NY-bred stakes types.  She won last out taking the Biogios Rose vs. those Empire-state types, so she looks to move up.

8
Cp Skeleton Moons    Greyfriars Stable    Bejarano R   123   7/2

Nabbed out of the Dec Auction for $100.000 and paid immediate dividends taking the LAPN Distaff in her first start for the new connections.  She has been tough with graded horses in the past, showing a third in the Bloom Hcp (GII) at BEL.  Give her a serious shot in this one.

9
Nailed Sir    Dawson Farms    Geroux F   123   7/1

She’s been facing softer but she’s always around when they hand out checks.  On-the-board in thirteen of nineteen starts and just missed last out at GP facing SAlw horses, which she beat prior to that.  Has speed and consistency… both are handy.

10
Prime Illusion    Nakamura Stables    Beschizza A   123   9/2

Another that always seems to be around when they hand out checks, hitting the board in all of her ’21 starts including a third in the La Canada (GII) and a runner-up effort in the Royal Delta (GIII).  She won four races last season, so she knows how to get her picture taken.

11
El Gran Attention    Tiratzo    Corrales G   123   3/1

Makes her first start of the ’21 season and won four of seven starts last year.  She was second at KEE last year on the grass in the Valley View (GIII) and closed out the year with a third at DMR, going long on the grass there.  Steady works getting read for her seasonal debut.

12
Ghost In The Shell    Jokerjoes    Rosario J   123   5/1

Changed hands via Private Purchase for $75.000 prior to that last out victory, when she took down Alw horses at GP.  She was third in the Chillingworth (GIII) at SA last season and was on-the-board in six of eight starts… the down side is she only had a single victory… but she’s already matched that total for this season.
