Dream Woman Dominates The Allaire Distaff

The Allaire Distaff Stakes (Grade 3)- $150.000
PIM- For Fillies and Mares Three Years Old and Upward
One Mile and One Eighth on the Dirt
May 15, 2020

There would not be much drama in the Allaire Distaff Stakes on Friday. Dream Woman would be dominant, running at the front at the start, and leaving them in her dust during the run in the stretch. It was an impressive way for this filly to make her debut in a graded stake, and it goes without saying that we will be seeing her in bigger things going forward. A couple other horses in this field proved to be disappointments, and that may have been why Dream Woman made it look so easy. She becomes the second three year old in a row to win this race, something that was only done once in the prior eleven editions of the stake. Her trainer is Mb Stables, and he wins the race for the second time in his career. He last did so in 2018, with Shes A Beauty. J K Court is the winning rider, and its his first win. The race would be run in a time of 1:48.64, making it the second fastest running of the stake that was held at exactly this distance. Let’s take a look at it!

(½ Mile- :47.93)- Miss Flora bursts out of the gate for Nakamura Stables and opens up a lead of a length. It seemed like it might wind up being more, but she would not force the issue any greater at this point. Our eventual winner, Mb Stables’ Dream Woman, also began well, and was a clear second place filly heading into the opening turn, but by the time they hit the top of the backstretch, she was running side by side with Miss Flora. Neds Assets, from The Sidley Stud, held down the third spot, and was running two lengths from the lead. Beside her was a horse in How Trait that did not start quickly but made a noteworthy move within the opening turn for Gdp Inc. At the back, last year’s winner, Red Lucy (The Sidley Stud) was four and a half lengths out, and had Stellar Wind (Simmer Down Stable) right beside her.

(3/4 Mile- 1:11.60)- Dream Woman and Miss Flora run side by side for a little while in the backstretch, but about midway through, Dream Woman was pulling away from her just a little bit with every stride. After six furlongs, her lead was almost a length as Miss Flora was not able to maintain this pace. There would be no new challengers emerging as it was still three lengths to Neds Assets and How Trait, with neither of them showing a sense of urgency at this point. Also running together still were Red Lucy and Stellar Wind, and they were now five lengths from the lead.

(Top Of Stretch, 1.7F To Go)- You can put it in the books now. Dream Woman was much the best in the turn, and enters the stretch with a two length lead. She showed no signs of slowing down, and still with no challengers making a run at her, this race was as good as done. Despite tiring, Miss Flora still had the second place position by a length, further showing that everyone else in the field would not have a chance to get Dream Woman. The other four were spreading out across the track now as both Neds Assets and How Trait were lacking any kind of stretch response. Red Lucy and Stellar Wind prepared to pass them, but that’s about all they looked about to do.

(Finish- 1:48.64)- It’s all Dream Woman in the stretch. All that was left was to watch her cross the finish line and wonder how big the margin of victory would become. J K Court had to be happy to see no kind of threat coming at her, and had to enjoy what was an easy race for his filly. Second place is a best of the rest deal, and Red Lucy and Stellar Wind get to share it. Fitting, because no one really deserved having that position all to themselves. Neds Assets takes fourth, beating Miss Flora and How Trait.

About The Winner– Dream Woman, trained by Mb Stables and ridden to victory by J K Court, is a three year old filly by Always Dreaming, and is out of A Woman Scorned. She was bred in the great breeding state of Pennsylvania as a first quarter two year old by Joshua Stables, and acquired by Mb Stables in the September 2019 auction for $15.000. Congratulations to the connections! The win is her fourth in 10 starts, and it is her first stake win of any sort. Her career earnings are now $201.500.
