TX Mile (Grade 3)- $300.000 Purse
LS- For Three Year Olds and Upward
One Mile on the Dirt
April 26, 2020
In the 16th running of the TX Mile, Eclipse My Knowledge was hoping to get back to his old winning ways. There is no denying his talent, and how successful that he has been, but after back to back eleventh place finishes, there was only one way to go. The race could be seen as a drop in class for him, considering where he was in those two poor races. Prior to them, he had a four race winning streak. Trainer Nakamura Stables got exactly what he was hoping for in the race, a big effort and a win from Eclipse My Knowledge, marking the trainer’s first win in the stake. Jockey A T Gryder also wins for the first time. Congratulations to them! The time of the victory was 1:34.50, the third quickest in the stake’s history. Let’s take a look!
(1/4 Mile- :24.01)- From his outside post position, Reach For A Latte, from Fractious, is the quickest out of the gate, and after an initial battle with Eclipse My Knowledge, it seems like he will be the early leader. But wait! Sinissippi Star, from Estero Farms, makes an aggressive move showing determination to get up there and take the lead, and he does exactly that. He’s up by half a length on Reach For A Latte after two furlongs. Our eventual winner, Eclipse My Knowledge runs in third position, a length and half back for Nakamura Stables. Directly to his inside, is Broke Red, from Mb Stables, with John Henry’s Commanding Bee nearby in the third lane. It’s another length to Cherokee Twins (TwinTowersRacing) and Grond (Mb Stables), and another to Waiting On My Moment (Luz International).
(½ Mile- :47.55)- Sinissippi Star looks like he might be about to pull away in the backstretch for a moment, and picks up the back over the second quarter of the race. Reach For A Latte is a length back, and continuing to run in the third lane. Eclipse My Knowledge is sitting in a comfortable position just off the lead, and would have a nice clear lane to take advantage of when A T Gryder told him that it was time. Broke Red remained on the rail, and Commanding Bee followed Reach For A Lattle, each of them within three lengths of the lead. Cherokee Twins and Grond tried to stay close, but Waiting On My Moment was now conceding three lengths to his closest competitor.
(Top Of Stretch, 1.5F To Go)- The time to strike for Eclipse My Knowledge was at the top of the turn, and with one quick move, he powered forward to the outside of Sinissippi Star and easily put that one way. Reach For A Latte also advanced, and was not going to go away as easily. He remained on the outside of Eclipse My Knowledge for the turn, and as they hit the top of the stretch, they were heads apart. Meanwhile, Cherokee Twins did a great job to take the same lane that Eclipse My Knowledge would while in the turn, and seemed full of run. Broke Red and Commanding Bee maintained their position, but were not advancing. Neither was Grond. Waiting On My Moment was still doing what his name says, but that moment may have already passed at this point.
(Finish- 1:34.50)- For much of the stretch run, both Eclipse My Knowledge and Reach For A Latte ran side by side while in full stride and it was exciting to see them go at it. As they got closer to the wire, Eclipse My Knowledge simply had a little more in the tank, and takes the hard fought victory over a game Reach For A Latte. Cherokee Twins did all he could in the stretch, but with the top two not backing down, he has to settle for the third position. Commanding Bee is the best of the rest for the fourth place check. Rounding out the order, it was Broke Red, Grond, Waiting On My Moment, and Sinissippi Star.
About The Winner- Eclipse My Knowledge, trained by Nakamura Stables and ridden to victory by A T Gryder, is a five year old gelding by Knowledge Geek, and is out of Blue Eclipse. He was bred in California as a first quarter two year old by Nakamura Stables, the only trainer for which he has ever known. Congratulations to the connections! The win is his ninth in 28 starts, his fifth stake win, and third graded win. His career earnings are now $1,105.540.
