The LS Turf stakes races keep coming and we look at the field for the Texas Turf, a mile and an eighth stakes for the gents.  I landed on The Godfather as the top selection today.  He’s been sharp of late, showing a pair of runner-up efforts, and may be sitting on another win.  I also like Rowdy Rb in this one, and his last pair have been at the marathon distance.  Add in that he ran big over this course in one of those and he could love the home cookin’ in a big way.

Here’s The Field –

1
Forty Six And Two    TwinTowersRacing    Velazquez J R   122   10/1

Broke maiden two back then was sold via the June Auction, now making his first start for the new barn.  They change tactics taking him the classic mile and an eighth distance, and that quick mile work over this track is appetizing.

2
   Telladifferentstory    Nakamura Stables    Wilson E J   122   9/2

Won the Smith (GII) last season in a year that he had three wins from nine starts and put some serious cash in the bank.  Still looking for his first win of the ’22 season, and was fifth in the Dinner Party (GII) at PIM last out.  He needs to wake back up.

3
Rowdy Rb    Broken Spoke Stables    Elliott S   122   7/2

Faltered in the BEL Gold Cup (GII) at the post time favorite, but I think he has the opportunity to bounce back here today.  He ran well over this track, airing by five going the marathon distance, and love a horse for a course… give him a look.

4
   Winstorm    Fractious    Rocco J S Jr   116   5/1

He’s been facing top-notch competition, but the struggle has been real.  His last two starts have shown signs of life, a fourth in the Barrera (GIII) at SA and a third in the Pennie Ridge (GII) at BEL, giving the weeds a first try.  Can he find a new life over here?

5
   The Godfather    Smokey Stover    Wenc I C   116   7/2

He shows a win from three grass starts, the Startac at TUP, but his other two starts were runner-up efforts vs nice horses.  He missed by three-quarters of a length in the Transylvania (GII) at KEE and only a quarter-length back in the Pennie Ridge (GII) at BEL.  He has to be given a big look today.

6
Mr Scratch    Nakamura Stables    Murrill M   122   4/1

He’s won two of four starts this season, matching last year’s total.  He got the job done last out in the American (GIII) at SA, closing late to squeeze out the win, and the extra furlong here should fit right in his

7
   Talador    Mb Stables    Hernandez R M   116   8/1

Very lightly raced, this just his fifth lifetime start, but the big barn knows what it takes to win these stakes races.  He was last of ten in the Pasadena at SA, then ran well vs. ONT-bred at WO, facing Alw company.  Let’s see how he goes today.

8
   Twenty Twenty    Threshold    Moran D   116   8/1

Closed well to be fourth in the Dinner Party (GII) at PIM, but his other seasonal starts have been wanting.  He had three big wins last season, so if he can find some old magic, he could be part of this one as well.
