Eight Sophomore Ladies Go for KYO Points and a Nice Purse in Beaumont

4/16/23

   5   KEE   Beaumont (GII) [KYO]

Lexington is the place and KEE remains the spot to watch as we catch a field of eight sophomore ladies set to sprint seven panels in the Beaumont (GII).  This has KYO points, so I’m sure they will be giving it all today.  Let’s take Almost Sinning as the top selection today.  She just missed in the SUN Oaks, and won at the distance prior to that, so she’s the logical choice to me.  I don’t think this is a loaded field, and she seems to have everything needed to win today.  It’s hard to look at any stakes and not give Mb Stables a shot, so I’ll put Sioux Flower in the second spot.  She’s done her best work on the wet track, but she has some class and broke maiden on a fast strip, so she’s not “wet only”.  She was only two back in the Alexandra (GII), and they may be good enough to win this.

Here’s The Field –

1
   Mirepoix    Alabarda Stable    Gaffalione T   120   8/1

Got back on the right side of things taking down OptAlw types at GP, going wire to wire and opening up late.  She was twelfth vs. graded types prior to that win, so she needs to run her best to get it done here.  Then again, this isn’t the most loaded field I’ve ever seen, so give her a big look.

2
Pinnacle Lea Party    Riggins Racing    Ortiz I Jr   120   9/2

I’ve liked her for a long time, and she just hasn’t been what I’d have ever thought she would be.  She did close late in the AZ Oaks for the new barn, only beaten three quarters of a length, so maybe she starts to mature and makes a splash here today.

3
   Carmen Lucia    TwinTowersRacing    Velazquez J R   120   6/1

Two wins from three starts since being sold for as cheap as they go… but a sixth in a stakes between those wins is the downside.  Still, she looked good getting it done at 99/1 over the wet SA strip, last out… so maybe.

4
Touch Of Love    Mb Stables    Silvera Ru   120   4/1

The big barn picked this one up two back, but she was fifth in the Suncoast at TAM then was out finished to be sixth in the Cincy Trophy, in her most recent.  You still cannot ignore the big barn, and I’d look for her to be a factor.

5
   Devils Bride    Fractious    Dettori L   120   9/2

She’s usually around when they hand out checks and won an Alw race at FG to get the year kicked-off in the right manner.  Still, she’s a mid-pack type and needs to step it up here if she wants to get her picture taken.

6
Sioux Flower    Mb Stables    Lopez P   120   3/1

She won the Silverbulletday at FG to get her ’23 season started in the right manner, but tired in the Alexandra (GII) over that same trip, then was closed to be third in the Bourbonette, again on a wet track.  The big barn may want wet going, but I’d give her a look on any surface.

7
   Almost Sinning    Arindel    Saez L   120   5/2

She was nine in her seasonal debut, the Santa Yanez (GII), but won an OptAlw at GP, and just missed in the Sun Oaks, so I think that was a bounce and she’s back in tip-top form.  She may be the horse to get past in this one.

8
   Commander Jessica    Nakamura Stables    Alvarado F T   120   5/1

Went wire-to-wire at TAM, kickin’ butt vs Alw types there, and broke maiden by thirteen… yes, thirteen lengths.  When she’s right, man oh man is she right.  Can she put on that kind of display today?
