7 SA San Carlos Stakes (GII)

It wouldn’t be a weekend of stakes races without the obligatory dead-heat and we got one in the San Carlos Stakes (GII) as the photograph could not separate Estero Farms Out On A Limb and Our Athletes Tallmadge Star in this seven furlong sprint stakes. The duo stopped the clock in 1:21.88 on the SA fast main track. A neck back, Zombie City was third then Ferrari Pininfarina in fourth in a race that was only five lengths from front to back.
Out On A Limb is a 7yo bay gelding by First Family – Interludewithaghost, by Laffin Ghost, and he was bred by Team 7 Illusions in ON. Acquired by Estero Farms via private purchase for $400.000 back in June of 2018, this was his tenth win from forty starts and he now has earnings of $2,024.320. The ol’ boy is still more than capable of racing with the top sprinters.
Tallmadge Star is a 5yo gray gelded son of Tallmadge – Havoc Star, by Wreaking Havoc, and he was bred in ON by Oquinn Farm. Purchased two races back via private sale for $200.000, the Our Athletes conditioned speedball stays a perfect two-for-two for the new connections and now has eight wins from twenty starts and earnings of $1,148.300.

Out On A Limb broke well, up quickly to take command, battled foe throughout the lane, ended on even terms for the DH win. Tallmadge Star broke quickly, tracked the pace to the lane, battled with foe through the lane, final surge to DH for the win. Zombie Star off a step slow, moved up quickly to track the pace, game effort. Ferrari Pininfarina away well, settled back a bit to track the pace, evenly to the finish. Grandstand Jockey away well, rated back to mid-pack, evenly. Gifted Man rated back early, improved position through the turn, could not move up from there. Cp Midnight Pain off a step slow, no threat. Unbridled Passion was outrun. Expert Eye flashed early speed, folded. Cucamonga was never involved. Unfold was outrun.
