Extreme Hobbit and Shes A Cougar finished inseparable at the wire on March 28, 2026, producing a dead heat in the Sanibel Island at Gulfstream Park. Extreme Hobbit, racing for Arkansas Elite under A. R. Rodriguez, worked out a forward stalking trip and finished strongly in the final stages. Shes A Cougar, representing Iwin Enterprise with T. Gaffalione, came from farther back and matched that finish stride for stride. Both fillies stopped the clock in 1:27.31 over the firm inner turf, and both earned equal billing for a race that remained competitive from start to finish.
The $150.000 Sanibel Island, run at 7 1/2 furlongs for three-year-old fillies, unfolded through fractions of :23.0, :46.2, 1:09.3, and 1:27.1. The shape of the race allowed several fillies a chance entering the stretch, and the finish reflected just how tightly matched the leading quartet was. The dead heat at the top was followed by another dead heat for third, with Song Of The Angels and Perception Plus also crossing the wire together after both had every chance.
Race Recap
This Sanibel Island was defined by the equal merit of the two winning performances. Extreme Hobbit took a big step forward in only her fourth lifetime start. After winning a maiden at this same 7 1/2-furlong turf trip in February, she showed that effort was no fluke by tracking the pace efficiently and finishing with authority when the race came apart late. For a filly with so little seasoning, this was a notably strong stakes performance.
Shes A Cougar was every bit as good. She had more work to do entering the second half of the race, but she kept improving her position and finished with enough determination to force the dead heat. This was a much better race than her prior sixth-place finish in a Santa Anita optional claimer, and she clearly ran better than many may have expected based on that most recent outing. Her earlier second in the Sweet Life Stakes now looks more representative of her true level.
Behind the top pair, Song Of The Angels also ran a very good race. She stayed involved throughout, remained in the leading mix at every major stage, and dead-heated for third after another honest effort. Perception Plus deserves equal credit for her third-place dead heat, because she made the key move to the front at the stretch call and was still there fighting at the finish. She did not quite complete the job, but she was a major factor throughout the race.
Gold Lion outran her 51-1 odds and turned in one of her better races, staying in contention for a long way and holding fifth. State Fire set the pace and stayed on longer than some expected before fading late. Queen Of Persia never improved after racing in the back half of the field, while Chickadee Amadee also remained toward the rear and did not threaten.
Extreme Hobbit is by Hobbit Halfling out of Extreme Portal, was bred by Arkansas Elite (ON), and is owned and trained by Arkansas Elite. With this result, she increased her lifetime earnings to $70.600.
Shes A Cougar is by Jinxed Authority out of Wolverine, was bred by Choppy Inc. (WV), and is owned and trained by Iwin Enterprise. With her share of the victory, she raised her lifetime earnings to $121.400. A logical next option for either co-winner could be another sophomore filly turf stake at a similar trip, depending on how aggressively their connections want to place them after this breakthrough.
