Fear The Stars Takes The Woodhaven

The Woodhaven
1 Mile Inner Turf Stake Purse $125.000 Open 3 Year Olds.

1st Fear The Stars Riggins Racing Davis D

How many times do we see a horse exclusively campaigned on one surface move to a new surface and win? Well, here is another, and I guess the clue was in his 1.35 flat work at the start of the month. He got the lead fairly easily in the end and didn’t have to work too hard and maintained the advantage comfortably until they hit the stretch. The closers closed but he has saved enough to hold on by a neck in a decent performance. I don’t think he is vastly improved by the surface, more that he would act on either, but I do think the mile is as far as he wants to go, and it was probably the trip and the conditions that beat him in his last two. Still and entire he now has two stakes wins to his name so may have a good future beyond the racetrack.

2nd Stage Door Johnny D J C Racing Stables Spencer J P

The pace wasn’t strong enough for the closer’s and whilst he made good ground, he came up a neck short in the end. This was another good run by the home bred gelding who is better than a two-win horse.

3rd Y So Serious Fractious Franco M

Stalked the lead but couldn’t quicken down the stretch, something we see quite a lot with horses stalking an average pace. This was another consistent effort and whilst he isn’t the best by a long way in this big barn he does have enough ability to win one of these races one day.

4th Esprit de Corps Joshua Stables Castellano J J

Ran in snatches and ultimately looked a little wanting at the end. This was only his fourth start though so there will be plenty of time for him and he has not cashed in two stakes races so that’s pretty good for a horse with just a maiden win to his name.
