Five Fast Females Look for Pot of Gold in Irish Stakes

The Irish Stakes brings a nice group of sprinting females to the SoCal turf course and we look at the small but talented group here.  I may be going against my norm but I took  Grand Cyclone in this one.  She is lightly raced but has looked good breaking maiden at second asking, changing hands, then wining against Alw horses at GP.  She’s fast, and speed may be the key to this one.  I put Lewis Bay in the second spot, making this a  Maxathon selection show.  The stablemate has done just about everything you can ask of a horse, bringing home money faster than an ATM in a 7-Eleven.  She could be the one to beat.  It’s a smaller field so anything could happen.

Here’s The Field –

1
Lewis Bay  Maxmillion Farm  Bejarano R 123 3/1

She’s consistent, versitle and knows how to get the job done.  Didn’t miss a check last  season and has two runner-up starts in 2020 so you have to like her in this one.  I like the distance for her and I think she will bring it today.  But does she have runner-upitis?

2
Growling In The Wind  Our Athletes  Prat F 123 4/1

Another that is always around when they hand out checks and had three wins from eight starts last season.  She’s done a lot of her damage on the main track but was third in a graded stakes two back over this track, so she fits well and should be in the thick of things.

Half Set  Pablo Racing Inc  Smith M E 123 8/1

Well they certainly don’t let her stand in the barn much.  Sixteen starts last year and this will be her fifth start of 2020, making most of her starts on the free circuit.  They jump into the deep end of the pool here and she will need her best to be a factor today.

4
Grand Cyclone  Maxmillion Farm  Gutierrez Mario 123 7/2

She certainly seems to enjoy this race horse thing, winning two of her three starts after an understandable debut (don’t get me started).  She makes another step up but won nicely after changing hands and looks fast and tough.  She very will could be a big big horse.

5
Love In Venice  Lemax Farms  Rispoli U 123 6/1

Hasn’t had her picture taken since July of last year and failed last out while facing $12.500 claimers in NoCal.  She does show a steady bunch of works over the surface so the barn must have been aiming at something over this strip but this may be aiming a bit high.
