Five Fillies Take On Melair Stakes

Melair Stakes

1 1/16th Dirt Stake Purse $200.000 Three Year Old Fillies Bred In CA

2016 Champ: Princess Legion

Memorial Day at Santa Anita will feature a couple CA bred stakes for three year olds. The filly version features five nice fillies looking to take home the $200.000 in price money.

1- Conspiring (Mb Stables, ridden by Bejarano R)

Lightly raced but looks like she has some talent. Won wire to wire in her second career start to break her maiden. Her works suggest she fits right in with these as she steps up to stake company and when your owners have a 30% win percentage it is hard to argue.

2- Wicked Broom Witch (John Henry, ridden by Gutierrez Mario)

John Henry will be sending out Wicked Broom Witch from gate number two. She had a nice run in a $100.000 six furlong race last time out finishing second. She seems like she may like the sprinting distances better and is in tough against these.

3- Pip Knows Skeleton (Chili King Stables, ridden by Desormeaux K J)

First start since competing on the first Friday in May is Pip Knows Skeleton. She seemed to struggle a bit in the mud so will be looking to redeem herself. Stepping back to state bred racing isn’t always as easy as it may seem for top end horses, she has hit a nice little field and will require her best effort to be in the money.

4- Artesian (Night Rider Stables, ridden by Espinoza V)

Only running in her fifth career start Artesian is already proving to be a great purchase by the Night Rider Stables. She was a $5.500 auction purchase and is showing she can be a contender in any of the Cal bred races she wants.

5- Hateuscuztheyaintus (Night Mare Racing, ridden by Talamo J)

“Never has a bad race” is one way to describe this three year old filly early on in her career. Eight starts and eight top three finishes means shes always putting money in the bank for her owners. She finished third on this very track back in November when she ran in the BC Juvenile Filly race. The only complaint as of late is her string of third place finishes she has put together but with a good effort here she will likely put herself back in the winners circle.
