Four Run in LCD Turf

LCD Turf ($100.000 Purse)
FG- For Three Year Olds and Upward Foaled In LA
One Mile and One Sixteenth on the Turf
December 12, 2020

It is a rather quiet weekend this week in the virtual racing world, but some LA-bred races will give us something to talk about. Unfortunately, they are not the biggest fields. In the LCD Turf, which runs for the first time since 2017, there will be four going to the gate. The race was first run in 2006, and would run for most years until 2017, when it was last seen. None of the horses in here are world beaters, but they are accomplished, and a $100.000 purse is always exciting to run for. Here they are!

#1- Cp Sad Pain (Barcelona Farms, ridden by C J Lanerie)- Three of the four horses in the field carry 123 pounds, so weight will not be a major issue here. Cp Sad Pain comes into the race off a win and a 100 SRF in the ungraded Schiller at AQU last month, and may be a horse on the ip and up as this is only his sixth start. He has never failed to hit the board, and everything seems right about him running well in this race.

#2- Cp El Gran Ecstasy (Arindel, ridden by S X Bridgmohan)- Last seen two weeks ago at CRC, in an allowance turf sprint that he finished third in. That race came off a three week rest period, in a $16.000 claimer that he won. If it were a sprint here again, I’d feel better, but he has only gone long once in his 17 race career, and it was not a good result. But we all deserve a second chance, right?

#3- Tallahassee (Gustafson Stable, ridden by A Beschizza)- This will be the 21st start of his career, and he will be looking for his fourth win. The Engine Failure colt has not won since October 2019, but has never finished outside the top four since then, either. Well, I guess we can’t finish outside of that here, either. Last races in the middle of July. Cp El Gran Ecstasy has made six starts since then.

#4- Subtle Grandeur (Bears Stable, ridden by F Geroux)- The gelding was claimed for just $7.000 at the beginning of March, and has since elevated his career to running at the stake level. He cannot boast a win in one of them yet, but nearly did back in August at the LA Cup Turf Classic, missing by a nose at the wire. Should like the distance, and can be expected to be a threat here.

Prediction: 1-4-2-3
