Mb Stables Takes Bayakoa Handicap in “Deliberate” Fashion

12/6/2020

  2    LA     Bayakoa Handicap (GIII)

   $100.000    3yo&Up F&M     1 1/16m Dirt          Hcp Weights

Sunday’s Bayakoa Hcp (GIII) at LA seemed like a wide open affair, looking at recent performances… so bet Mb Stables and you are probably safe.  Yes, yes you were.  Deliberate Miss did better than her OP race under the same name (where she was fourth), and won the LA version by a length.   Nakamura Stables took both the place and show purse money as Nut It Up had the lead in the stretch but could not hold off the winner, settling for the runner-up spot, and her stable-mate My Brave Hero finished third, three lengths off of the winner.  The final time was 1:412 for the mile and a sixteenth on a strip labeled fast.

The field of seven loaded into the gate, and were off and running with Nut It Up away alertly, Risen Day and Deliberate Miss showing speed towards the inside, Commanding Jane and My Brave Hero just in behind that group, then Querencia and Starship Twister was off a step slow.

Into and around the clubhouse turn, they had six furlongs to run and Risen Day had opened up a two length lead.  Chasing that one was the trio of Deliberate Miss on the rail, Nut It Up between horses an My Brave Hero three wide.  Another two lengths back to Commanding Jane saving ground, Querencia on her outside and Starship Twister continued to trail, seven lengths from the leader.

Making their way down the backside and now nearing the far turn, seven sixteenths of a mile to run and Risen Day backed out of it quickly as Nut It Up moved up to take the lead by a length, My Brave Hero on her outside, Risen Day now third, Deliberate Miss moving up on her flank, Querencia three wide, then a length and a half back to Commanding Jane, and Starship Twister continued under a hold, six lengths from the front end.

Around the far turn and into the lane, then went past the three-sixteenths pole and Nut It Up was in front by a length and a half, Deliberate Miss in the three path and moving forward with each jump, My Brave Hero down the center of the track, another length and a half back to Querencia widest of all, Commanding Jane trying to get going as Starship Twister and Risen Day had put the cues in the rack.

Deep stretch and to the finish, Nut It Up with the lead, but Deliberate Miss went right on by at the sixteenth pole and Deliberate Miss was not to be denied today going under the wire clear and taking the victory.  Nut It Up continued on well for the place, a length in front of stable-mate My Brave Hero.  Commanding Jane was fourth, then Querencia fifth, Starship Twister sixth and Risen Day last in the field of seven.

Deliberate Miss is a 4yo chestnut filly by Strategic Command – Wontseeyoutonight, by Poet Laureate, and she was bred in FLA by Our Athletes.  Acquired prior to breaking her maiden by Mb Stables via Private Purchase back in Feb of 2019 for $100.000, she now shows eight wins and seven additional on-the-board finishes from twenty-three starts, and this pushes he earnings to $474.430.
