Coming out of Summer and moving into the Fall all eyes naturally move towards the Breeders Cup with owners trying to campaign their best to meet the criteria to even qualify. That is even more important for the two year olds who are not even eligible to race for the first quarter of the year and have a condensed time period to rack up the points and earnings to qualify for the big year end showdown of the best of the best. With that in mind eleven juveniles entered the gate hoping to bolster their resumes and move forward in their pursuit of HRP racing glory. At the end of the race it was four across the line in an exciting edition of the premiere two year old race at the Del Mar meeting and nearly a three way dead heat with the top three almost assuredly to be seen for a rematch in the BC Juvenile. 

First DH: Blood Moon Rising (Nakamura Stables/D.E. Centeno) Huff N Puff/Red Moon Creeping (Battle Trenches) Got a good break for post eight and settled into a three wide stalking position. Was set down and asked to go after the pacesetter Sim Racer mid way on the turn. At the top of the stretch, he was at the flank of the leader with Drink And Drive battling on the rail and Palantir making a bid to his outside with My Life For Hire beginning to find his best stride just off of those. Stuck his nose in front with just strides to go and it was a head and head to the wire with both noses landing on it at the same time for a shared win with Palantir falling short of making it a threesome by his own scant nostril. Remains undefeated since being gelded and is sitting pretty in second for BC qualifying with 10 points and career earnings of $320.52.

First DH: Sim Racer (Blazin D/F. Pennington) Mr Forgotten/Cry Lonely (Hollywood Kruz) Flew out of the gate and instantly established himself as the clear leader and gained some separation out front. Maintained the lead until the top of the stretch when four horses began to give chase. It was at this point where Sim Racer dug in and showed his guts to the wire fighting off all challengers and gaining the dead heat win despite appearing to be headed shortly before the wire. The gelding who started off his career in a maiden claimer available for $40 now stands at number 1 on the BC qualifying table with 12 points and career earnings of $269.00.

Third: My Life For Hire (Mb Stables/F. Geroux) Sinissippi Star/Darling (Born To Be Bad) Settled into a stalking position in the early going with Drink And Drive to his inside and Blood Moon Risking on his outside. The other two appeared to get the jump on him in making their moves a little earlier but he found his best stride late in the stretch and steadily gained on the leaders to fall just a nose short of making it a three way dead heat. With this race he is now ranked sixth to gain entry to the BC Juvenile with 6 points gained from three straight third place finishes in graded races and career earnings of $130.87.

Fourth: Palantir (D J C Racing Stables/J. Bravo) Chisel/Third Eye (Dial It In) Established a midpack position behind the three stalkers. Was asked to run midway on the turn and swung widest of all to make his stretch bid. At the top of the stretch he seemed to have a good shot with possibly the best momentum but gave way a little in the final strides to fall a half length short of the winning pair. 

Preview Pick: Palantir – Fourth. Good effort in first start outside of restricted CA breds.
