Gobekli Tape Looks One To Beat in The Whimsical Stakes

The Whimsical Stakes- GIII
5/10/20
WO Race 5 6F – Dirt
Purse $125.000
Four Year Olds and Up Fillies and Mares

A field of only six filly and mare sprinters has been entered up to contest this year’s running of the grade three Whimsical Stakes over the Woodbine oval. Small field but some nice runners have been entered so let’s take a look at them.

1. Tommy Frazier (15-3-2-5 $434.440), trained by John Henry

Already a graded stakes winner in her career and she has ran with the best. Eighth in last years Breeders Cup Filly and Mare Sprint and also second in the grade one La Brea. She runs that type of race she will win in here.

2. Ginger Nightshade (19-6-3-4 $212.330), trained by The Sidley Stud

This filly here is also a stakes winner but she has never been able to win in her only graded stakes tries. She did not run to well in her last start but she does have some back class. She will have to run a big one to win.

3. Crush Szyra (10-4-2-1 $130.240), trained by High Voltage

Well here is a filly who is definitely improving right here and she is coming into this race off of a good fourth in the grade three Las Flores. She should be able to run a good one in here and should hit the board for sure.

4. Mucho Gracias (16-8-1-3 $362.410), trained by Rampage Stable

Another graded stakes winner here and she was on fire last year with three stakes wins in a row. She tailed off after that but did win her last start in a wide open allowance. If she has returned to form she will be very tough.

5. Gobekli Tape (17-9-1-5 $903.000), trained by Threshold

The class of the field here and she was third in the Breeders Cup Filly and Mare Sprint last year. She is a front running speedball but she runs her best on the lead. She is the class of the field and my top choice in here.

6. Four Left Feet (13-6-3-1 $515.420), trained by Mb Stables

Once again another graded stakes winner in the field but all of her best running has been on the grass. She switched over to the dirt and has not had much success. She has a slight chance because of the trainer.

Summary

Well a tough field here for sure and it is hard to pick a clear cut choice but I do think that Gobekli Tape is the horse to beat in this field. She is the class and should be tough. Good luck to all in the field.
