Silent Commander finally had the chance to show his late running style here at Belmont Park, as he closed down the stretch to narrowly beat out a threeway photo for the runner-up spot.

While he did show some talented kick in the early Gr. I AR Derby last month going nine panels, Silent Commander made his move at just the right time to steal the show. This is now his fourth win in eight career starts, and his record stands at 8 ( 4-2-1 ). His is top dog as active horses for his trainer Serenity Stables, out of now his top broodmare Silent Partner. She has produced another stakes winner by the name of Silent Niner. You could definitely tell the joy for this trainer as he stepped back into the winners enclosure for his first Graded title since last July when Lucky Pivot took home the Gr.III Iowa Oaks.
Its been awhile since this writer has covered a threeway photo for the runner-up position, but it took the Stewards almost ten minutes to come to the final posting. The trio consisted of front runner Winchester ( Maxmillion Farm), who was looking like he was going to go gate to wire, but was unable to keep up the kick straight till the end. Xray Spex ( Estero Farms) actually impressed with his efforts as he seemed to show the staying power in his previous Fl Derby effort. Mb Stables Bobs Ticket tried to stay close in the early stages with the frontrunner, but then took a short breather around the turn and found his second wind down the lane to get himself in the mix. Definitely a better approach this time around from previous races.
