Green Carpet Stakes
1 1/16 Mile Turf Stake Purse $100.00 Three-Year-Olds. At BTP.
Green Carpet Stakes was first run in 2006 as a $50.00 at RD and won by Beav Racing’s Light By Night. It ran at RD, skipping 2008, until 2012, returned in 2016 as a $75.00 race, then went away until 2024 when it returned as a $100.00 race, skipped last year, and here we are. Whew! The result of these fits and starts, there has never been a repeat trainer winner. As far as today’s race is concerned it looks to be a battle between Threshold’s P C Police, Bigchief Stables’ Lost In Translation and Mb Stables’ Ribots Verset. Here’s the field:
Horse Owner Odds SRF
P C Police Threshold 3-1 92
Lost In Translation Bigchief Stables 7-2 91
Ribots Verset Mb Stables *2-1 90
True Commander Ashwood Farms 4-1 89
Get My Punch On The Sidley Stud 5-1 86
Tio William Valdo Stable 6-1 89
Tio William won handily at first asking at BTP, followed by a second in a $20.00 claimer at PRX and back to BTP for third in an allowance. After that, three races of nothing, including a ninth in the $125.00 Mine That Bird Derby.
2 True Commander Ashwood Farms 89
True Commander is another of those that was purchased for such a low price early that the owner is not afraid to enter low and as a result the horse stays in claimers longer than it should. That said, it looks like Ashwood Farms has recognized his value and is using starter allowances to keep him in their barn, and he’s doing fairly well. It remains to be seen if checks from starter allowances can translate to checks from stakes races.
3 Lost In Translation Bigchief Stables 91
Lost In Translation made his debut in a $5.00 maiden claimer at LAD and finished third under the colours of the legendary Jerry Garcia Racing and got snapped up by Bigchief Stables, and then the fun began. His new trainer moved him to the bigs where he ran a strong second in a big-ticket maiden at SA followed by a maiden win at PRX and then victory in a victory in a GP opt/clmg. He then had a bad go of it in the $150.00 Cutler Bay. I think this spot is a bit softer and he will have learned from that unfortunate go around.
4 P C Police Threshold 92
P C Police just missed in a very nice closing second in the $110.00 Sophomore Turf at TAM, this following back-to-back wins at similar distances. This lad has the look of a horse that got started on the wrong hoof. Since he sold for only $4.00 at auction from Smokey Stover, Team 7 Illusions didn’t hesitate to risk him for $25.00 in a maiden claimer and Threshold grabbed him. I’d say he’s been a treat since then, immediately third in a high-priced maiden at CD followed by the maiden breaker at TAM, nice chunk of change, and a win at TUP that led to the place in the Sophomore Turf.
5 Get My Punch On The Sidley Stud 86
Get My Punch On has done little to make me think he’s ready for stakes racing. There’s been a lot of expectation, like a $78.00 purchase price and three stakes tries, but all in all, it took him four races to break his maiden, then three failed stakes tries and finally three allowance races with only one second in those.
6 Ribots Verset Mb Stables 90
There is a lot expected of Ribots Verset, and it could be argued he is right on schedule. This race will show it, and I reckon he will be favourite to win. After running back eight lengths in his debut against previously raced maidens, he posted a nice six-furlong work and went into the auctions where he brought in a hefty $200.00 for breeder The American. The winning bidder was top stable Mb Stables who immediately got a win from him at PRX. Since then, it’s been firsts, seconds and thirds in allowance races leading up to his first stakes effort.
