SAR- For Fillies and Mares Three Years Old and Upward Foaled in NY
One Mile and One Sixteenth on the Inner Turf

Following the West Point, the ladies will have their turn in tenth running of the Yaddo, a turf event for New York breds at SAR. Like the West Point, the race once featured a two time winner, as Hambletonian Stable picked up the trophy in 2010 and 2011 with Futo Vatten, a Toolbooth Willie mare who won 13 of her 29 career starts. Also like the West Point, Boomtown had the winner of the 2014 event, doing so with A P Lady. The field is small, but unlike other small fields sometimes, it is not lacking talent. Expect a good race, let’s this foursome.
#1- The Generals Out (Hambletonian Stable, ridden by J R Leparoux)- The trainer looks for his third win in this stake and had a great shot with this four year old General Assembly filly. She was a well known commodity in the game as a two year old, winning four of her first five races, including the Grade 1 Frizette. This sent her to the BC Juvenile Fillies, and she was a decent fourth. Those have been her glory days, but what the filly has become isn’t that bad. Since the summer of 2014, we have seen her in mostly in $100.000 ungraded stakes, about half of which are for NY breds. She has done well and won a couple. I’m looking elsewhere, but she can oull this off.
#2- After Revolt Party (Mb Stables, ridden by R Bejarano)- Now, there’s a familiar name! She has won three of her four career races, including her debut for yours truly. After no one wanted to buy her in private sales for $15.000 for about two weeks, she ended up in the September auction, where Mb Stables picked her up for $8.630. He has been rewarded, as After Revolt Party has won two of three, including an impressive allowance win here at the Spa. She’ll probably be a longshot on raceday given the competition, but I like how she is working in the lead up to this race. If she does win, take another look at private sales to see who might be sitting around for a little bit at a budget price in appreciation of it.
#3- Princess Mandy (Night Rider Stables, ridden by S X Bridgmohan)- At one time, the Princess seemed to be right there with the top horses of her division, the likes of Tight Pockets and Know How Causeway around this time last year. She has continued to race against the best, and hasn’t necessarily run poorly in the graded stakes she has been attempting, but she does need to be a little better. She reminds me a little of Son of Ra two weeks ago here at SAR in the Fourstardave. That horse was still running fine, he just needed his mojo back with a win. He got it, and Princess Mandy needs to follow that lead. I see no reason why she can’t win here.
#4- Grey Wind (Drabfantasy, ridden by J L Ortiz)- A couple others in this race will likely draw more attention at the betting window, but I like Grey Wind. First, let’s start with the fact that she carries five less pounds then Princess Mandy and seven less then The Generals Out. Since being purchased by Drabfantasy for $80.000 in private sales, and adding a bit of bute, Grey Wind is consistently turning out mid-90 SRF’s. Now, a couple others in here have done better, I do admit, but I like how she is going back to the turf. She ran just two weeks ago in the Liberty, part of the NY Stallion Series, and in watching that I felt as though she had a bit of excuse in that, even with finishing third. As long as she’s ready to go, she is my pick.
