Handicapping Angles Abound in The Gallorette Stakes

The Gallorette Stakes 1 1/16 Turf Grade 3

Purse $150.00 For Fillies And Mares Three Years Old And Upward

Laurel Park, Laurel MD

Another small contentious field to take a look at on the big Laurel Park weekend. Let’s start with the obvious, Antares from Alydar Stables is a class standout here and her numbers earned in any of her last three performances, and those earned most of her career would topple this group on any given day. However, at seven years old you just have to wonder when father time is going to catch up to her. Clearly the horse to beat, but she is beatable and will be no bargain on the tote, so maybe she is an on top only play, you decide. Run For Fun from Maxmillion Farm comes out a race that should have her on edge for this. Utilized throughout her career as a sprinter, she took down a grade three going long in Arcadia to end 2025 and hasn’t been under silks since. Expect her to show some grit for a barn with big lifetime turf numbers. Lucy Heat from The Sidley Stud is a three year old filly who is three for three in her brief career. Drawn on the outside of a small field, she is likely to gun for the lead. Not at all my kind of play, as my followers know, but she did face older rivals last time and the fact that her connections also start another runner in here is a positive sign. One thing for sure, if she pulls off the upset she will be a main conversation piece from those taking in the action on this big weekend card. My Princess Em from Bigchief Stables is a tough six year old mare who might have fallen into the perfect spot here for a rebound. Purse nibbling for a while now, “Em” can grab some decent cash if able to reproduce her run last October in the Dance Smartly Stakes where she ran big at this same trip. With all the question marks in here, this could be a great spot for a rebound.

Of The Rest;

Fairy Godmother from Greyhound is a four year old filly looking for what most four year olds are looking for, consistency. This race is full of question marks and she adds to that. My guess is that she will run her race Saturday, I just think that a minor prize might be her ceiling.

Reorganize from Czech Out Farms is a five year old mare who has rebounded slightly in 2026 from her last couple runs of 2025. She has grit and a touch more speed than usually shown. In muddy waters such as this race, toughness often wins out over pure form. She should be a decent price to boot.

Ginger Gem, also from The Sidley Stud is another three year old filly put in here by her connections. Numbers indicate a big boost would be needed just to play ball Saturday. For me, she is a pass.
