Insect Gets First Stake Win In Forego

GI – The Forego

$600.000 Graded Stake 7 Furlongs on Dirt for Three & Up

Nine horses vying for a spot on the BC Dirt Mile entered the gate but only one would cross the wire with the win and the win and your in spot and be headed straight to the BC with no worry of having enough points. Mb Stables got a lot of the pre race attention and for good reason. They had three entries in the race, two of which was the post time favorite and the defending champion of this race. But neither of them could come home with the victory, the actually ended up second and third and their stable mate that was overlooked before the race is the one that came home on top capping off a Mb Stables top three in the Forego.

When the gates swung open it was Spring Lover from the five post and Moriches Bay from the outside, ninth post to be the quickest out. As they headed down the backstretch Jolly Be Native ran up and would split those two to hold onto second place headed into the far turn. Close in behind was Insect with the rest of the field a couple lengths behind in a tightly packed group.

As they turned for home the perfect hole opened up for jockey Pennington F who was able to guide Insect between Spring Lover and Jolly Be Native and stick a nose ahead of Spring Lover for the victory. Fast closing Moon Landing would nip Jolly Be Native at the line for third.

With the win Insect automatically qualifies for the BC Dirt Mile the first weekend of November at DMR. Congratulations to Insect and the whole team behind him, he stopped the clock in 1:21.39.
