KEE…  the most beautiful place on Earth!  We catch of field of nine for the Commonwealth (GII), a seven furlong extended dash for the older fellers and this race is about as open as you could want.  I landed on Ukrainian Victory as the top choice, as the classy rascal has won three of his last four starts.  Let’s go right next door and give Its A Laugher a shot for the win.  He never seems to run a bad race and no reason to think he will start today.  Let’s head out to the outside and give Sweet Sweet Sweet a serious look.  He won the BC Sprint (GI) last fall… ’nuff said.

Here’s The Field –

1
   Rock N Rattle    Angelos Stable    Cedillo A   123   9/2

Only a single win in 21 but matched that count in his first start of 22 taking the Toboggan (GIII) by a head.  He closed a bit to be fifth only a length back in the San Carlos (GII) at SA last out, and should be in the mix here.

2
   Cherokee Twins    TwinTowersRacing    Gaffalione T   123   10/1

It’s been a struggle… he didn’t win a race last hear, showing a pair of third place finishes, and has missed the board in both races this year, last of eleven in the Toboggan (GIII) and an eighth in the Challenger (GIII) at TAM, both tiring efforts.  He needs to turn it around in a big way.

3
   Its A Laugher    Maxmillion Farm    Franco M   123   7/2

He’s been right in the thick of things lately and just missed last out when tiring to be second beaten a nose in the General George (GIII) at LRL.  I’d expect more of the same and look for him to be in the picture when the cross the finish line.

4
Ukrainian Victory    Gdp Inc    Espinoza V   123   5/2

He’s doing everything right, winning both of his 22 starts, and beat Alw horses over this track last season.  I think he may be the one to get past today, if you want to have your picture taken.  You have to use him on all tickets.

5
   Geronimo    Nakamura Stables    Carrasco V R   123   6/1

He won three races early in the 21 season including the Fool (GIII) and the Bold Venture (GIII) but it’s been a long list of less than thrill races.  Fourth in this years Toboggan (GIII) then a fifth in the GP Sprint Chp (GIII) along with a CA-bred turf stakes last out… he needs to find some old magic.

6
Street Edge    Spankys Barn    Bravo J   123   7/2

Sold at the Dec Auction for a mere $7.780 and he’s proven to be a sharp purchase.  Won a six furlong OptAlw sprint at SA, then came back to win the Fool Hcp (GIII), both of those in wire-to-wire fashion.  He looks like he’s as good as he’s ever been and you have to give him a big shot today.

7
   Stolen    D J C Racing Stables    Ferrer J C   123   9/2

His lone 21 win came vs NY-bred stakes company, but he’s been close in a number of graded races and looks to be a solid contender in this one as well.  I don’t like that he’s been tiring late in his last two starts, but maybe this is a spot where he can bounce back.

8
Shifu Tan    John Henry    Jaramillo E   123   5/1

He’s been solid over his last five starts, four of those for a previous barn, but his first start for the new connections ended in a nice third beaten a head in the General George (GIII) where he was the even money favorite.  He won the Phoenix (GII) over this track…  watch him.

9
Sweet Sweet Sweet    Night Rider Stables    Velazquez J R   123   9/2

All or nothing type that has put some serious cash in the bank winning races like the Vigil (GIII) at WO, the OBrien (GII) at SA and the BC Sprint (GI).  He was also eleventh in the Cigar Hcp (GI), but bounced back to just miss in the GP Sprint Championship (GIII).  Watch him.
