Jinx Queen Looks to Capture the Crown in The Skip Away

Only filly in this field of eight, how many times have we seen this play out against the boys in the past, and her numbers are nothing to sneeze at for sure.

  • The Skip Away- Grade III Stakes event
  • Gulfstream Park Mile and three sixteenth Main track
  • Purse $100.000 For Four Year olds and Upward

History will be made here at Gulfstream this Friday as Gdp Inc’s Jinx Queen will be the first ever filly to compete in this event since it’s inception back in 2004. It seems to me if I can recall, another then three year old who shattered the dreams of another lad of racing. The year was 2010, and the hype was all about a horse by the name of Five Fives ( then owned by CC Farm ), and he was poised to capture the Triple Crown. Along came Mrs. Bombastic ( Blushing Meadows ) to compete in the PRK Stakes, and when it was all said and done, she walked away with a neck victory at the wire.

So can Jinx Queen keep these seven boys behind her at the wire? I like her chances. Here’s the field;

Special Project ( D J C Racing Stables ) Jockey Wilson E J– Opened the season with a three length victory in an Alw27 at GG in the slop, then stepped up a few notches to Alw57 company and remained third throughout. Makes another step up the ladder, and this will be the longest distance to compete at here. Wilson does like the dirt, and she could help keep this one around for a share.

Performance Artist ( Serenity Stables ) Jockey Ortiz I Jr – Since summer of last season, this bay gelding has been struggling at the Grade I level in six tries. Competed in all three TC events, with his best effort being sixth in the slop at PIM in the Preakness. Does have a victory at this level in the Durham Cup, and did go runner up in last years FL. Derby over this track. Will be in the mix.

Johannes ( Eastern Equine ) Jockey Jaramillo E – Closed out last season with a victory in the $75 Tenacious at the Fairgrounds, then opened this season with an OpClm62.5 win over that very same surface. Is fifty percent in the win column in ten starts, and has finished nine times in the money. First time at this oval and will be up against it here against these. Works are nice.

Champion In Action ( Night Rider Stables ) Jockey Castellano J J – Opened the year with a nice victory in the $200.000 SSM Classic over this surface at nine furlongs, and was closing down the lane. The extra sixteenth should be to his liking and he did score a 98 speed figure in that event. Its been two months, but works have been keeping him fresh. Factor.

A Storm Has Arrived ( Maxmillion Farm ) Jockey Landeros C – Captured the Gr.I Clark Hdcp. back in November, and opened this season with an Alw33 victory on the west coast. Should be one of three in here who will be looking to challenge late down the lane, and it should all come down to who has enough the tank to finish the others off. Upsetter.

Kryptonite ( TwinTowersRacing ) Jockey Bravo J – For this four year old bay colt, his last three attempts at Grade I events has met with disaster. After trying to stay close in both the Gr. I Clark and the Malibu, he changed up his style in his most recent to try a closing effort in the mud here. Hopefully he isn’t being effected by his name, and the betting public agrees. Not likely here.

Air Show ( Mb Stables) Jockey Gaffalione T – The love fest continue between trainer and rider, this elder statesman has already had a victory at this distance over this surface for an Alw50. Rider is back once again, and that is always a good sign. Earned a 99 Speed figure for that event, so don’t take this one lightly. Should look to spring to life with others at the top of the lane.

Jinx Queen ( Gdp Inc ) Jockey Velasquez J R – As mentioned early, she is the only filly to compete in this event. Pluses she has going for her here; top World Ranking with these of 112, rider has won this event four times, more then any other rider, eight of fourteen in victories, and over $1000.000 in career earnings. Though she hasn’t won since her two GradeI events at SAR last summer, she will be tough and I pick her on top.

Summary– No matter how this event unfolds, we as the betting public are going to see an amazing race here. Most these horses will be in the hunt to claim glory, and it will have the fan on their feet cheering for there favorite. Good luck to all.
