John Henry Brings a Little “Twist” to Park Avenue

Zero Twist took to the lead at the top of the lane and with Best Of Seven ( Chili King Stables) pressing the issue to her outside flank, the two runners would go one/two at the wire.

  • NY Stallion Series- Park Avenue Purse- $200.000
  • Aqueduct Racetrack- For Fillies Three Years old, Foaled in NY.
  • Six and One half Furlongs in distance- Main Track

Returning to the sprint ranks after two failed attempts at going longer, Zero Twist ran very similar to her efforts in her opener of the season when she took home the $75 Glitter Woman down at GP. This was her first effort at a restricted New York event, and she made the most of it. Her final time of 1:15.80 was just two one-hundreds of a second slower then her time in the Glitter Woman. In six career starts she has three victories to her credit and who knows how much better she would have been staying at these shorter events. The Bouwerie comes up in late May, another three year old restricted affair for New Yorkers, and with the seven furlong distance and the longer stretch over at Belmont, that should be an ideal fit for her. As for John Henry, now into his fifth full season here at HRP, this win would be his fourteenth stakes title of the year, and he sits tied for third with Maxmillion Farm with stakes victories this year. He has earned over $50,000.000 in stakes money for his career.

Along with Zero Twist’s final time, Best Of Seven was the only other runner in this event to finish under the 1:16 mark. Placed well coming off the turn for home, she was putting in her best run down the stretch, and was only beaten by a stronger finishing racer. While she was post time favorite in her previous maiden victory, she was dismissed at 16-1 odds for this event, and backers were smiling all the way to the cash windows. The return of Carmouche in the irons probably played a large factor in her efforts on the day. Has not missed a payout in all three starts this season, and we may very well see her and Zero Twist battle it out again in the Bouwerie.

Rounding out the trifecta would be Threshold’s Lotta Heart who was staying strong in the stretch and was able to hold of a late charge from Certain Vision ( Mb Stables ) to her outside, and Easily Amused ( Night Mare Racing) along the rail. Lotta Heart has two stakes titles to her credit already in her career, and number three shouldn’t be that far off in the distance.
