John Henry May Have Found Grandmaster of Sprinting in Highlander Stakes

Highlander Stakes – Grade I (P4)
6 Furlongs Turf Stake Purse $300.000 Open 3 Year Olds And Up.

1st The Grandmaster John Henry Talamo J

With two lengths first to last its hard to say this was a comprehensive win but the fact that this four year old had the age weight allowance to contend with as well made this half length win more like a two length one. He really has been a revelation since coming back to sprinting winning his fourth race in a row and his second grade one of the season. The fact that he won a mile grade two stakes race at the end of last last in a sub 1.33 time make him all the more impressive and i would go so far to say he may be almost unbeatable when the Turf Sprint is contested in November.

2nd Pink Condor Axeman Garcia Alan

The weight allowance can make pretty average three year olds look very good and whilst calling this one average is harsh nothing he had done up to this point made him look like he could run this close to a grade one winner. But its a fact of life we have to deal with at HRP that weight allowances make champions and its clear this one is very close to the best sprinters in the game now.

3rd Gleaming Spirit Mb Stables Colon L H

Another honest race from this five year old but he couldnt quicken off this pace and was never going to beat 1.08 with his weight.

4th Lawmen Chili King Stables Pennington F

Ran two lengths better than he did in the Daytona last time and did very well to get into the last paying spot in the race.
