Juvenile Fillies Look to Maid Of The Mist

Eight entries will make their way home to New York State to compete in the restricted Maid Of The Mist, all looking to make this event the next step to improving their juvenile record before next season.

  • Maid Of The Mist Purse $250.000
  • Aqueduct Racetrack- For Fillies Two years old, Foaled in NY
  • One Mile- Main Track
  • October 19th, 2019.

With the exception of Commanding Chai ( Maxmillion Farm ), all runners have at least one victory coming into this event. While two runners attempted to break their maiden over this track surface, the group should find the fast surface that is expected on Saturday to their liking.

Weights: 120 pounds

Changes: Chili Star– Blinkers added

First we will start with entries who have competed recently in Graded stakes events as they should get the most consideration for this race

Watheerah came to Team 7 Illusions out of a June claim, and she has competed in both the Gr.II Pochontas and the Gr. I Alcibiades. She performed better in the Pocahontas, mainly for the fact she was in an outside post in the Alcibiades, where she tried to get out early and was left out down the lane. Inner post should have her more competitive today. Forty Chai ( Estero Farms) competed recently in the Gr. I Natalma going a mile on the grass. She was able to close to with two lengths in that affair, and now makes the return to the dirt. Earlier in her career she had two runner-up efforts in shorter events, and switch back to the dirt off a fine turf effort usually can turn in brilliant results. Two others with Grade company experience are Sweet Charis ( La Canada Racehorses ) and Chili Star ( Chili King Stables ). For Sweet Charis, she closed to within three in the Grade I Frizette where she sat at the back of the field till the run for home. That was at today’s distance, but she will not get the long Belmont lane for this event to make up distance. Will need to be closer to make a dent, and should be able to make the change today. With Chili Star, she is adding blinkers for this event and this will be her second time on Lasix. She placed four lengths out in the Gr. I DMR Debutante in her most recent, that coming after she won by an amazing 15 length maiden victory at a mile at PEN.

Others with recent success start with inside runner Winegum Wishes ( Crocker Ggs ) who is coming off a victory in the $150 Gimma event by three quarters of a length. There is one in here who could push the envelope to 45 second half mark, but I don’t think that will happen and that could lead to this one getting in the mix. Runner-up from the Gimma was Flying Swan ( The Sidley Stud ) who leaves from post five. She would also have a runner-up effort in the Seeking The Ante Stakes as well. The added distance would be a nice add to her efforts.

The other two runners to complete the field will be Local Glitter ( D J C Racing Stables ) and non winner Commanding Chai. Local Glitter is coming off an Alw64 non winners of one in her most recent. Has yet to run beyond six furlongs in her four career starts, so this could make for a new bar setting for her future route efforts. As with Commanding Chai, while she is still looking for a maiden win, I kind of like her chances heading into this event. Her last two races, she was forced to get to the front early do to the fact that she had to break from posts eight and ten. Now tighter to the inside should leave her some energy in the tank for a later effort down the lane.
