Made To Sin Takes Holy Bull

After the Holy Bull, only BC Juvenile winner Ginger Haggis has more KYD qualifying points than Made To Sin. He posted his third win and proved he is a major contender for the roses.

The early pace was fast. Made To Sin broke behind the leaders Feeling Funny and How To Laff and settled into fourth just behind Idol Knowledge. Around the clubhouse turn, How To Laff led by a fraction of a length over Feeling Funny. Idol Knowledge tracked behind them by a length and it was another length back to Made to Sin. Indiana Jones held his position on the rail in fifth. The Force Awakens and favorite Night Terra ran just behind him on the far outside. Jolly Be Native, Pip Saltfish, Snow Peak and Shen Valley rounded out the field.

They straightened into the backstretch and Feeling Funny and How To Laff opened on the field by 2 ½. Eventual winner, Made To Sin, trailed Feeling Funny on the lead by five. Night Terra, the morning line favorite, sat just to Made To Sin’s outside in fifth. Snow Peak had two horses beaten and ran eight lengths off the pace.

Feeling Funny and How To Laff continued to open up on the field. Idol Knowledge hung tough in third. Made To Sin was in no hurry to make a move and sat five off the lead. Night Terra lost some ground and at the back of the pack, the filly Snow Peak switched to the outside to find running room.

Going into the far turn, How To Laff finally took the lead back from Feeling Funny, the two of them still running loose up front. Idol Knowledge ran third then it was Made To Sin, Jolly Be Native and Night Terra stride for stride in fourth. Night Terra had a nose in front of Indiana Jones, and the filly was beginning to make her run on the outside just behind them.

On the turn for home, How to Laff held on to a dwindling 2 ½ length lead. Feeling Funny began to fade while the rest of the field bore down on them. Made To Sin captured third at the head of the stretch. Jolly Be Native ran with him while Indiana Jones came off the rail and followed behind Made To Sin toward the leader.

Made To Sin passed How To Laff and took the lead with a furlong to run. Indiana Jones moved back to the inside for his run. Jolly Be Native and The Force Awakens made up ground on the outside, while Snow Peak still had two lengths to make up.

In the shadow of the wire, Made To Sin led the way by a length. Indiana Jones, Snow Peak, Jolly Be Native and The Force Awakens chased him four across the track. At the wire it was Made To Sin by a length with Indiana Jones and Snow Peak dead heating for second.

Made To Sin was bred in CA by Team 7 Illusions and has changed hands three times in his short career. He won the Sanford (Grade 3) and the DMR Futurity (Grade 1) to earn a place in the gate for the BC Juvenile where he finished a hard fought second. He just doesn’t like an off track. The only times he has finished worse than second came on off-going. So Downwind Stables will be hoping for a dry track the first Saturday in May. If Made To Sin keeps running the way he is now, he’ll almost surely be there.

Indiana Jones put in the performance of his life to tie for second with super filly Snow Peak. He and Snow Peak both earned four points in the effort. It remains to be seen if Snow Peak, who enjoys a comfortable 24-point lead in KYO standings will stay on the BC trail or return to competing against the lfillies. Either way, look for her to make a mark for herself this spring.

Order of Finish

Made To Sin – stalked the lead and took control in the stretch to win by a length

Indiana Jones – made a late move from mid-pack to tie for second

Snow Peak – Came from well off the pace to get up for second

Jolly Be Native – Near the back of the pack early, gained ground steadily, came up just short

The Force Awakens – Looked beaten halfway through the race, then rallied to finish a close fifth

Pip Saltfish – Never a factor

Shen Valley – Never a factor

How To Laff – Led briefly, then faded badly to finish six lengths back in eighth

Night Terra – Made a move but couldn’t get to the leaders and finished ninth

Idol Knowledge – Stalked the pace early but faded to tenth in the stretch
