4 SA Sensational Star Stakes
$100.000 4yo&Up Foaled In Cal 5 1/2f Turf
Well, I did a decent job of handicapping this one, even if we did have a DH for the place…. and Max put a spanking on them in this one as Regret Nothing waited for his time, closed down the lane and got the job done by a half-length, taking Sunday’s Sensational Star Stakes in 1:03.07 on the soggy SA turf course. Cold Weather Rider and Phar Lap couldn’t be separated by the camera and ended up in a DH for the second spot, with Exile And Return gaining the minor money.
The field loaded into the gate under grey skies and wet conditions, and as the gates flew open, they made their way down the hillside with Lone Shadow on the early accelerator. Cold Weather Rider from the rail, Exile And Return from the outside, Give Your All on his flank, Phar Lap, Double Six and Regret Nothing in a bunch and Starling was the early trailer.
Now nearing the main-track-cross-over and past the five sixteenths pole, Cold Weather Rider cut the corner in front by a half length. Lone Shadow still pressing the pace, Exile And Return three wide and tying to inch forward, a gap back to the trio of Regret Nothing on the rail, Phar Lap three wide and Double Six in between that pair, another length to Give Your All and Starling could still see them all.
Down the lane they made their way inside the furlong marker with Cold Weather Rider now in front by two, Exile And Return down the center of the track and being asked for more, Regret Nothing down the rail and gaining, Phar Lap showing interest and coming after them, Lone Shadow beginning to weaken, and the rest needed to get going as time was running out.
Inside the final 150-yards and to the finish, Cold Weather Rider now looking at Regret Nothing and watching him go by, with Regret Nothing all out to win by a half length. Cold Weather Rider continued on but was nailed on the wire by Phar Lap to end up in a dead-heat for the place. Exile And Return was fourth, Give Your All with some late run to be fifth, Double Six sixth, Lone Shadow in seventh and Starling closed this one out.
Regret Nothing is a 5yo gelded son of Mucho Hype – Pink Snow, by Pink Panther, and he was bred in Cal by Downwind Stables. Maxmillion Farm purchased the multiple stakes winner for $100.000 in May of 2019 and he now has seven wins from twenty-six starts and has accumulated earnings of $917.800.

Regret Nothing reserved early, responded when asked into the lane while saving ground, slipped through the rail to gain a lead, all out to the wire, won driving. Cold Weather Rider broke well to press the pace, took over into the lane, caught, game, dead heat for the place. Phar Lap raced mid-pack to the lane, loss ground, re-fired, late closing effort to gain a dead head for the place. Exile And Return broke alertly while just in behind the pace, continued well to deep stretch, out-finished. Give Your All off a step slow, reserved, best action too late. Double Six evenly, no menace. Lone Shadow sent from the gate to lead early, folded. Starling showed no interest, outrun.
