SA Oaks – Grade II [KYO]
1 1/16 Miles Dirt Graded Stake Purse $200.000 Fillies Three-Year-Olds. At SA
1st Monarchy Mo Mentum Farm *6-5 (HRP) *4-5 (SRF)
Undefeated Monarchy which has already won the $250.000 SUN Oaks and the Grade III Santa Ysabel Stakes, both ‘win and you’re in’ races; now cruised to an easy three-length victory in the SA Oaks making her look very much the favourite in the KYO, if her connections decide to send her that way. She is, after all, nominated for the Triple Crown and destroying the filly division like she might do very well against the lads in the Derby. The race was a wire-to-wire romp that increased margin with every stride until a three-length victory without Victor Espinosa ever touching her with the whip.
2nd Facts Of Love Alydar Stables 7-1 (HRP) 4-1 (SRF)
After Facts Of Love fired too late in the Grade III Santa Ysabel Stakes, her trainer decided to change tactics, and it worked as she stayed close to the pace from the get-go and, while she couldn’t threaten the winner, she held off the rest of the field.
3rd Breathtaking Big Guns Stables 9-1 (HRP) 3-1 (SRF)
In the Grade III Santa Ysabel Stakes Breathtaking forced the pace into the stretch and fell back down the lane. Today she used the same tactic but held on much better to catch the third-place money.
4th Follow The Queen La Canada Racehorses 30-1 (HRP) 5-1 (SRF)
Follow The Queen has been a dedicated front runner and has been tiring. Today she came out of the gate last and trailed the field most of the way until exploding down the lane to finish fourth.
