Moon Landing Looks to Keep Rolling

                      The Forego Stakes- GI [BC]
                            SAR Race 6 7F- Dirt
                               Purse $600.000
                         Three Year Olds and Up

A full field of fourteen elite sprinters are going to be lining up at the spa on this Travers card with other big races. It’s a big field and a competitive field for sure. Whoever wins this race will get a free spot in the Breeders Cup Sprint so whoever wins this race is probably the real deal. Let’s look at the field

1. Derby Pip (35-12-9-2 $608.870), trained by RNP Stables

This gelding is one who everyone wants in their barn because he is a win machine with twelve wins in thirty five career starts plus his nine seconds that he has racked up. He ran second in the Vigil Stakes last out and that was a pretty good race for him. He will need a quick pace to run at to help him.

2. Queenwood (20-9-2-2 $1,466.190), trained by Smokey Stover

A filly that is in here with the boys is a very good filly. She is a grade one winner with her female rivals and had won some big races in her career. I’m not sure about this distance though because her best races have been around two turns and I’m not sure if she will be able to go one turn.

3. Moon Landing (38-10-9-7 $3,159.230), trained by Mb Stables

The old classy gelding and last years Breeders Cup Sprint champion is coming in here off of a win in the Belmont Sprint Championship. He is such a consistent horse even if he doesn’t win its almost a lock that he will run top three if not top two. He is going to be my top pick in here because he is a great horse.

4. Red Matic (18-4-1-4 $556.100), trained by Witeout Stables

The West Virginia bred closer will need a very quick pace to run at because he likes to come from way back. He ran third to Moon Landing last time in the Belmont Sprint Championship when he was flying from way back. He has a chance in here I think if the pace is quick on the lead.

5. Dastardly Havoc (12-2-1-2 $360.400), trained by Maxmillion Farm

This horse was bought for one hundred and fifty five dollars after his last start where ran seventh in the Dandy. He has only ran under a mile one time in his whole career and that was his first start of his career. Maybe the seven furlongs will help but it’s hard to tell and I don’t see it happening.

6. Clash Study (23-10-4-2 $2086.060), trained by Oquinn Farm

Here’s a horse who has quite a bit of back class from his three year old when he won the West Virginia Derby and the Pennsylvania Derby. If he could run the same race in here like he did those days he could win but the problem is I don’t think he will. I think he is better around two turns anyways.

7. One Dance (12-4-4-0 $453.910), trained by Gdp Inc

The winner of the grade three Amsterdam last out over this same surface here at Saratoga. He won that race against three year old sprinters and now he is going to try and face older horses in this years Forego. If he runs like he did that day he has an alright chance. He’ll need to run very big though.

8. Steel Tunes (11-6-2-0 $498.020), trained by John Henry

The runaway winner of the Ohio Derby is going to be cutting back in distance to seven furlongs which he has won a stakes race at before. He lost his last out but before that he had won five races in a row. If he can run like he had on that five race win streak he definitely has a good shot to win.

9. Caydens Camel (12-4-2-3 $328.000), trained by D J C Racing Stables

The runner up to One Dance in the Amsterdam is this horse right here. He ran very good that day and ran a very good race to get second. The time before that he ran fifth in the Belmont Sprint Championship to Moon Landing but he only got beat a length that day. He has an outside chance for sure.

10. In Captivity (16-5-6-2 $809.230), trained by Mb Stables

The second entry from Mb Stables is another grade one winner also when he won the grade one Cigar Handicap last year. He hasn’t won since then but he has been on the board in every race since then. He definitely has a chance and I wouldn’t be surprised to see Mb Stables go one two.

11. Residue (10-3-2-2 $249.120), trained by Smokey Stover

The other entry from Smokey Stover is this three year old colt who just ran sixth against Moon Landing in the Belmont Sprint Championship. He came from last that day and was rolling late so if he does the same thing in here he will need a very quick pace to run at and lots of racing room.

12. Palestinian (31-10-6-5 $1,000.330), trained by Nakamura Stables

Well I’m not sure what Nakamura Stables wants to do with this horse because he had been running him seven furlongs and then he stretched him out to a mile and a half and now he is back at the seven furlongs distance. He is a nice old horse but I don’t see him winning this race at all.

13. Saturday Khartoum (13-5-1-3 $426.690), trained by Rousee

This lightly raced four year old is coming off of a grade two win in the San Carlos last out at Del Mar. He is a pretty nice and he has won a couple of other stakes races in his career also so he has some class on his side for sure. I wouldn’t be surprised at all if he crosses the finish line in front.

14. Oversell It (41-16-6-7 $1398.610), trained by Team 7 Illusions

This graded stakes winner is coming off of a third place finish in the Vanderbilt Handicap over this same track. He got beat a length that day and ran a really good race. He has won big stakes like the grade two seven furlong CD before so he has some class. I wouldn’t be surprised if he was to win.

Summary

Well obviously I think the race goes through Moon Landing because he is the best sprinter from last year and he has been winning big races this year also. I wouldn’t be surprised really if anyone in this race one actually but I definitely think Moon Landing is the horse to beat in this spot.
