The tote-board was lit up again in the BC Mile (GI) as Nevada Silver, dismissed by the public at 27/1 odds, got into a heated battle for the lead… but the Nakamura Stables owned gelding just kept to the task at hand and was actually pulling away late, winning by three quarters of a length in a snappy 1:32.85 over the firm DMR turf course.  Roman Rage sat just behind the speed dual, but just couldn’t get any closer to the winner, taking the place in a photograph with the hard closing Immoral in third, nosing out  the mare, and 3/1 post time favorite, La Terrifiant in fourth.

The gate was full as they lined up on the lush lawn here in SoCal, and as the gates sprung open, Nevada Silver, Spiral and Hollywood Capo were on the early bit, Roman Range, from the inside, Ohtani between horses and Cherokee Surprise out the outside of that group.  Another gap to Insist Always on the outside of Bubba Kush, Immoral on the outside of that duo and down to the inside for La Terrifiant.  Hollywood Hero was next, Sensei, Commander and Cobra Man.

The field made their way around the clubhouse turn and we had a speed dual on our hands with Spiral sticking a head in front of Nevada Silver, a gap back to Hollywood Capo, with Insist Always on the outside, another gap to Ohtani between horses, Cherokee Surprise on the outside of that one and Roman Rage on the rail, another gap to Sensi on the outside of Cobra Man, La Terrifiant on the inside, Bubba Kush just behind that trio, out widest to Immoral, then back to the inside for Commander Wellesley and Hollywood Hero was now the back marker.

Now moving down the backside and nearing the far turn with three-eights of a mile to run, Nevada Silver moved back up to take the lead by a length as Spiral backed out.  A gap to Insist Always, Hollywood Capo still on the rail, then a gap to Roman Rage on the inside, Cherokee Surprise and Ohtani between horses and Sunsei on the far outside.  Back down to the rail for La Terrifiant, another length to Immoral on the far outside, Cobra Man and Bubba Kush towards the inside, another length and a half to Commander Wellesley and Hollywood Hero could still see them all.

Around the far turn and into the lane with a bit more than a furlong to run, Nevada Silver had moved off to lead by two lengths.  Spiral still trying to give that one a tussle, Roman Rage down the center of the course, La Terrifiant, Insist Always and Hollywood Cap towards the inside, back outside for Immoral, Ohtani, Cherokee Surprise, Bubba Kush and Sensei.  Then a gap back to the trailing trio of Commander Wellesley, Hollywood Hero and Cobra Man.

Deep stretch and to the finish, Nevada Silver was looking a bit weary as the late closers were headed after him, but not today folks… not today, and Nevada Silver went under the wire clear by almost a length.  Roman Rage tried to make a real race out of it, closing on the outside of the winner but it just wasn’t meant to be and he took the second spot, almost the same distance back to Immoral in third, and another length to La Terrifiant in fourth.  It was another length to Bubba Kush in fifth, nosing out Spiral in sixth, Ohtani was seventh, Sensei eighth, then a dead-heat for ninth between Hollywood Capo and Cherokee Surprise, Insist Always was eleventh, Commander Wellesley in twelfth, Hollywood Hero thirteenth and Cobra Man was last in the field of fourteen.

Nevada Silver is a 3yo gelded son of Nevada Brave – Luciana, by Chai Latte, and he was bred by his owner, Nakamura Stables, in Fla.  This was his fifth win from ten lifetime starts, his fourth win of the 2021 season, and he now has career earnings of $1,655.250.  Only a 3yo, you have to believe we will see a lot more of this one, and that could spell bad news for a lot of trainers.  Congrats to the connections!
