BC Fillies & Mares Sprint – Grade I

Under the kind of golden skies that only DMR can produce, fourteen gorgeous lasses headed to the starters gate for the fifteenth running of the $1,000.000 BC Fillies & Mares Sprint, led by Mb Stables’ race favourite Precise Performance. All settled calmly until under starter’s orders and then they were released in a blaze of colour down the chute led by Smokey Stover’s Grazin At Sunrise close to the hedge and Fractious’ Grand Cyclone and Mb Stables’ Not A Big Deal out at the far edge of the track.

As they settled down on the backstretch, Grazin At Sunrise was headed by Not A Big Deal, Grand Cyclone kept her challenge while TwinTowersRacing’s Notorious Return moved up to consideration in spite of substantial odds at the head of a solid cluster of chargers. As they passed the half, Not A Big Deal relinquished the lead to Grazin At Sunrise which registered the :45 3/5 clocking as they led Grand Cyclone and Not A Big Deal into the far turn. Precise Performance was laying close behind in fifth and starting her run while eventual winner Night Rider Stables’ Slckmoment Laga was still back in tenth waiting for her moment slck or otherwise.

At the top of the stretch, the field bunched up while Grazin At Sunrise opened up a length and looked to be getting away, Grand Cyclone moved into second as Precise Performance charged into third, eyes on the lead and Not A Big Deal faded to fourth. By now Slckmoment Laga was sixth out in the middle of the track and making the undeniable charge.

And to the wire they came, Slckmoment Laga a long half length victor over Precise Performance carrying Notorious Return up into third while Grazin At Sunrise held on for fourth.
