Three Year Olds

A field of nine three year olds have been entered up for this years running of the grade two National Museum Of Racing Stakes here at Saratoga Race Course. It is sort of the second stringers with the Saratoga Derby this weekend also. Let’s look at the field.

1. Storming (11-2-1-0 $120.000), trained by John Henry

Last years Del Mar Trials winner right here and so far that has been his biggest accomplishment. He just has not lived up to the early expectations but this is his first start on the turf and the works are strong. Maybe the surface switch will turn him around.

2. Kray Kray Kray (5-2-0-0 $18.000), trained by Blushing Meadows

The next runner in the field right here is making a huge jump up in class as he just won a seventeen dollar non two lifetime claiming race. He did take that field wire to wire in a nice time but I am just not seeing him being that competitive in this field.

3. Lucky Kommand (9-3-2-2 $127.500), trained by Estero Farms

This horse will be making his first ever start for new trainer Estero Farms after he was bought from Aer Stables only a day after he bought him so I think Estero Farms saw something. He makes his first start for him here and I think he placed him well and he has a shot.

4. Prince Of Theories (7-4-0-0 $128.650), trained by Mb Stables

Ever since Mb Stables acquired this horse he has gotten him figured out and he has won three races in a row. The key was taking him off the pace as he always wanted to fire out to the field. He is on the improve and he may be going the right way at the right time.

5. Mysterious Moon (7-3-1-0 $54.570), trained by Fractious

And now to this horse who is coming into this race off of a lackluster finish in a California bred stakes race. He did not run that well in that race but it could have just been a bad day at the office. I think he has a good chance to hit the bottom of the board at least.

6. Brazen Deception (13-4-0-2 $211.600), trained by Nakamura Stables

Here is a runner that is coming into this spot off of a very big win in the grade three American Derby where he won by five lengths over a soft turf course. He is definitely one of the favorites if the race is on an off track but I still think he will have a decent chance on firm going.

7. Mojave Rattler (11-3-2-1 $157.360), trained by Mo Mentum Farm

Another stakes winner in the field right here when he won the Woodhaven at Aqueduct this spring. He took a shot in the Queens Plate last start and he was just outclassed in there. I think that he is a lot better on the turf but I still don’t know if he can win in this spot.

8. Deadly Denim (8-3-1-0 $116.400), trained by Joshua Stables

And the next horse in the field here is coming into this race off of a fourth place finish in the grade three Kent Stakes at Delaware Park. He just has not been able to crack through at the stakes level and I don’t know if he is going to be able to do it here.

9. Diplomatic Leader (11-3-3-1 $229.400), trained by D J C Racing Stables

The final runner in the field here for the wizard and he is coming into this spot off of a ninth place finish in the grade one Belmont Derby. He ran second in the grade one Jaipur before that. I think he is a talented runner but he has a very tough post and I don’t know if he can go this far.

Summary

A pretty good field has been assembled for this race and there is quite a few chances to win. Ny top pick is going to be Brazen Deception off of that very impressive win in the American Derby. He looks very tough in this spot. Good luck to all in the field.
