No Childe Of Mine Continues His Winning Ways in Elusive Quality

While Guns and Roses front man Axl Rose sang about his girlfriend in the song Sweet Child of Mine, it seems apparent that as writers ourselves, we might very well be writing about this Our Athletes Champion for sometime into the future.

Saturday’s second race here at Belmont saw No Childe of Mine earn his fourth straight victory, and now has a record of eight starts, five wins and two places on the grass. Hopefully this four year old bay gelding will continue to compete over this surface, and continuing winning in future affairs.

Content to stalk the pace until the turn for home, Jockey Cancel knew just when to let his mount do his thing, and find another gear to bring it on home at the wire. Both his stakes wins have earned him a 98 SRF figure, and it will be interesting to see if he steps it up s notch to the Graded ranks, or continue at the non graded level. Fractional times for the event were 23 flat, 45 and 4, 1:08 and three, and a final time of 1:20.10.

The only mare in this event would be Kapai Kapow ( Grimley ) and she would seem to keep pace with the eventual winner throughout this race. She too has an impressive record on the turf with four starts, one win and three runner-up finishes. The grass is definitely her footing, and hopefully she will see more of that, exclusively with the ladies.

Third would be Quarter King ( Gdp Inc ) who was content to sit a bit farther back in the initial part of the race, but would kick on late to miss by a length. He was sent out as the 5-2 favorite for this event, While he has been producing at the three quarter distance, would love to see him take on a miler in the future, as I think this could be his distance.

Final share of the payouts would be snatched up by Nowhere Man ( Mb Stables ). Hopes were high for this black four year old as he was coming off a fourth place finish in the Gr. I Kilroe Mile. Hopefully he gets back to Woodbine, an oval he seems to enjoy.

Rounding out the event were Ask To See Spot ( Mfm Stables ) , The Spaniard ( Big Jd Racing ) , Wild Fame ( John Henry ), and Corroya ( D J C Racing Stables ) who seemed to have a issue at the end of the event, and was euthanized soon after.
