No Standout On Form in the South Beach

The South Beach – NG
1/25/20
GP Race 7 7 1/2F – InTurf
Purse $150.000
Four Year Olds and Up Fillies and Mares

A field of seven fillies and Mares has been entered to take a crack at this years running of the South Beach here over the Gulfstream Park sod. A very solid field has been entered up for this race and a nice purse up for grabs. Let’s take a look at the field.

1. Wolfslayer (20-3-8-2 $415.500), trained by Maxmillion Farm

First runner in the field here and this mare will be making her first start on the turf in quite a while. Although she has not ran on the turf in a long time she has placed in seven of eight starts on the lawn. I think the return to grass will be beneficial to her and I expect her to run a big race.

2. Copper Crest (9-2-3-3 $117.940), trained by RNP Stables

Next filly in the field and she will also be making her first start on the turf in a while. She has been running on the dirt and she has been running well but can’t seem to find the winners circle. If she runs like she did in the Mother Goose she will be tough in here.

3. Credit Union (17-5-5-3 $97.750), trained by TwinTowers Racing

Next runner in the field here and she is coming into this race off of two second place finishes in a row against allowance company. This is going to be her first time ever against stakes company so it’ll be interesting to see how she does. She will have to run big to win here.

4. Chateau De Chambord (19-5-4-4 $341.820), trained by John Henry

First of two for John Henry here and this mare is coming into this race off of two third place finishes in a row against wide open allowance company. She did run second in a statebred stakes race three races back and if she can run that race back she could have a chance in here.

5. Diamond Tiara (20-7-1-2 $229.430), trained by John Henry

Second of the two for John Henry and this mare is coming into this race off of a win in an optional claimer at Fair Grounds. She is making the return to stakes company in here but she got a little confidence booster in her last race. She’ll have to run big to win here.

6. Steal The Heart (13-3-2-3 $207.700), trained by Samlam

Next to last filly in the field and also the highest weighted runner in the field because of her stakes win back in August. She had a bad trip last time in a stakes race at Fair Grounds where she led on an off track. A better trip should help but she needs to get back in form.

7. Cracked The Code (12-4-5-2 $197.500), trained by Smokey Stover

Last but not least in here and she is entering this race off of two straight wins. They have both been against optional claiming ranks but she has won them both impressively so if she can do that again she could be tough. A tough post to overcome though.

Summary

Not a bad field at all for this race and there as some good runners in this field for sure. There is definitely no standout in here either though so my pick is Cracked The Code but with a lot of caution. Good luck to all in the field.
