Pace Makes the Race as Number Nine Dictates in The Waya

The Waya – Grade III
1 1/2 Mile Inner Turf Stake Purse $150.000 Filly & Mare 4 Year Olds And Up.

1st Number Nine Spankys Barn Franco M

This front running filly has had the perfect draw and race pace to bring her tactics to the fore in her last two starts. Allowed to dictate again today she was always nicely clear and whilst the rest of the field played cat and mouse with each other they let this filly quietly slip away for a clear cut two length win. She clearly has strengthened into a really good routing filly and i can see her taking a similar route as last year to try and get a place at the big dance in November.

2nd Chai Mission Maxmillion Farm Davis D

This tough five year old was taken back from the wide draw today and that was probably her undoing as the slower pace suited the front runner and though she mad up ground on the winner she never looked like catching her. Another good performance from this mare i am sure her trainer wanted rain but she is still handy on a dry track and probably ran as good as expected in the conditions.

3rd Red Lucy The Sidley Stud Tunon M

Having her first turf start she made up plenty of ground but like the rest of the trainers in this race the tactics employed proved to be wrong as she struggled to get to the winner off the below average pace.

4th Quest For Fame Rheingold Stables Gaffalione T

Taken way too far back off a slowish pace to have any chance at all but did manage to get fourth in the end.
